Why does school start so early in some parts of the country? We grew up knowing that school would start after Labor Day in NYC on the following Monday and out here in the eastern suburbs two days after L.D. on Wednesday.
Though now with all of the extra holidays that some school districts need to give and depending on when Labor Day falls in the month, some districts start earlier than before – but almost all do not start until September. (School runs to the end of June.)
Around here they started last Thursday the 22nd which is a week early than normal. When I was in school we didn’t go back until the day after Labor Day and the last Friday of May was the last day, now they go into the end of the first week of June, or if have days to make up then 2nd week of June.

I love her parents; they look Edwardian but are not stuck in the past.
