I have actually seen a version of this device, in a restaurant in Oregon. I believe it was called “What’s behind this door? $1.00 to see it!” I was amused. Then someone came in and paid the money. I was very amused.
Oh yeah I recognize that game. I see it played every year around election, voting for the very same corrupt career politicians hoping something will change.
if you put a bitten apple in front people would put the hundred bucks in front of every body to see, and will complain that there is no higher denomination and only poor people would place a dollar
In a nearby city a couple of years ago, someone set a box with a slot in it and instructions next to a bank ATM after hours. It said: ATM out of order; place deposits in box for morning pickup. Yup – a few gullible people, fell for it.
What’s somewhat sad is that there are people who are gullible enough to fall for such schemes. What is far, far sadder is that there are people who are low enough to take advantage of such folk. In their minds, it’s somehow not even stealing.
Then again, prison sentencing definitely favors frauds over less discrete thieves. If someone steals a car or two, then his or her sentence will likely be far more severe than that for someone who defrauds thousands of people out of millions of dollars.

I know of places where I could get rich with one of those.
One of the saddest parts of my life is the fact that I know where those places are located.

I’d push the ‘refund’ button. Just in case. It’s not like I put any money in there anyway.
