Actually it seem he Sea of Reads, the real potential crossing spot, was shallow enough for tide and winds to make it crossable. Lots of mythology loses it’s edge if you look at possible realities. It’s a lot like fish growing as the fisherman retells the tail.
I always figured that when he parted the waters he also laid down a sidewalk, because imagine trying to walk across all that muck and the various sessile critters. Not to mention whatever lumps, bumps and puddles.
