He’s wrong. Avatar is actually the name of scientist Victor Avatar, who creates a monster known colloquially (and incorrectly) as “Avatar”. In the book the monster becomes a sensitive and benevolent being, while Victor turns out to be the true monster.

This sums up “Avatar” pretty well. There must have been some sort plot in that flick, but it didn’t matter. It was all about the computer-generated effects.

I rented the movie frm Netflix in the pre streaming era. It was lame. All the budget was spent on visuals and there was nothing left for the script.
