Youth Sports parents….. causing a massive referee shortage from their abuse. It’s easy to pile onto a millionaire who has parlayed their talents (and jerkiness) to riches, and therefore not caring what we think. But these hyper-aggressive parents are sending the message to the next generation that sportsmanship is for losers.

OK, please forgive me as I don’t follow sports much at all (most of what I know of current sports news comes from this strip); I don’t remember the names of the teams or players involved; I don’t believe these were nominations in the first place; and they weren’t even from 2022, but I’ll take the opportunity to add my “vent”, one from MLB and one NFL:

I’m still a bit annoyed, perhaps disgusted, by the action (or inaction) of two officials on the field. First was the MLB umpire who called a player safe at 1st Base (when video showed that said player was clearly out by a mile!) after 8 2/3 innings of a perfect game by a young pitcher, thus denying that pitcher a perfect game (the ump even admitted he was wrong later). The second was the referee who missed the very obvious pass interference (even I saw that one!), thus upending the game (was it in the playoffs a couple years back?). Yeah, I know, I wasn’t the one on the field, it’s part of the game, the refs and umps are only human, etc. etc., but really bad calls such as these really need to be overruled. Hey, we were invited to vent!
