Bring ambidextrous certainly didn’t put Gordie Howe at a disadvantage (and, of course, switch hitting baseball players).

Tank, I doubt the caller knows what you are talking about.

…I say if the ball hits the uprights it should be worth one extra point…

Think of it this way. Would you restrict a quarterback from throwing a 70-yard touchdown?

I’m at a loss here. There are people that want to discourage the use of feet in a sport named football?

The miss is already penalized by field position.

Pete Rose bet he’d never die. He lost again.

Like time outs – limit the number of attempts to three per half

At least the long field goals are a result of skill and strength, nor exploiting a loophole in the regulations. The “sneaky” part was hiring soccer players as place kickers. But there has been improvement since that time, so you have to attribute long field goals to improvements in technique and training.

Had this caller been around back in the day, he would have been bitterly opposed to the forward pass. He’d have been trying to change the rules of track to prevent the four-minute mile. I’m surprised he isn’t calling for changes to the rules of gymnastics to prevent Simon Biles from doing her signature moves. Games develop, skills iimprove, sports change. There are always people who fear change and try to prevent it while having nothing to offer for improvement.

If you wanted to make field goals harder (for example, to encourage teams to go for it on fourth down), you could move the uprights a little closer together.

My memory is rather hazy, but didn’t the XFL experiment with the extra point being worth more the farther away it was kicked? The kicking team had the option of the ball starting further back for 2 or 3 points depending on distance.
