Poor Gladys. Husbands shouldn’t forget birthdays. Or anniversaries, for that matter. Mine never did. Of course, my birthday was 8 days after his and our anniversary was Christmas day.
You can be certain going forward she will never let it happen again. (Next year: Hey Brutus… Remember June 21st two years ago, when you forgot my birthday? I was just thinking about how quickly time goes by.)
My ex’s birthday is nine days before my own. When she turned forty years old, I teased her so much, I wasn’t sure if I’d live to turn forty myself. I did learn my lesson though, when her fiftieth came around, I kept my mouth shut.
I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out why a person should get a present for something that they had absolutely nothing to do with. People should give presents to their parents to thank them for tolerating them through the obnoxious years.
Other than my husband’s, the one birthday I always remember is my oldest sister-in-law’s. She was born on Halloween, and I’ve always thought that was a really cool birthdate to have. The downside is, it’s really hard to find a Halloween-themed birthday card!
Brutus you could respond with a line like, " I only forgot because you never seem to get any older." Don’t know whether Gladys will buy it or not, but it’s worth a try.
All I need to know in life, I learned from watching classic sitcoms. They taught me that it’s the foolish husband who doesn’t remember his wife’s birthday and their wedding anniversary.

Well I looked back a year ago on Go Comics, and it appears that she wasn’t even aware of her birthday back then, since there was no mention of it.

How does Gladys know that Brutus is not planning to take her out to dinner or do a surprise party when he gets home from work?

Funny how memories like that have periodic cycles. And even funnier that it seems gender based with the fairer sex having many more of them.

Hey! Gladys and our middle daughter Monica share a birthday! (It wasn’t till a few years ago we realized we should have named her “Summer”).

Bad form, very bad form, especially when we have calendars and personal assistants on our phone to remind us…..

And he thought he was being considerate by not reminding her she’s getting older. I tell you just can’t win.
