The 70s arenāt all that bad, when you canāt run fast enough to catch a common cold. (havenāt had one in 30 years) Cancerous bladder tumor removed and had 18 chemos and am now clear. shoulder dislocation and torn rotator cuff repair, and now have some limitations in movement, but Iām learning to cope with it. Other than that, allās well.
If I knew I was going to live this long (almost 79) I would have never smoked, drank and chased fast women. Spent last 30 years trying to improve on my first 49 years. Beware.Stupid living (sin) has its consequences. Living proof found in Rest/nursing homes. I visit 3 or 4 days every week to bring Lordās word and a snack to many. 30 years ministry. My late wife and mother were a great rock to me. King David said, āPraise the Lord seven times a day.ā Words of Medicine for our Souls. I am thankful for medicine and our great Doctors and the Great Physician.
Yeah, 50 is one of several times you start anew in life. Your life starts again with your first job; it marks the end of childhood and the beginning of adulthood. Around 50 you tend to be in leadership positions at work or even change career paths entirely. Then it starts again in retirement which could be a struggle financially and medically or youāre in good shape on both.
If only. Yet during my mid 50s was when l retired from Law and went into teaching. So, yes, a different life did in fact start for me. However my early life experiences did prepare me for my new lifeā¦.
Yesterday Hurricane Hattie was shaking down Mrs. Twombly under the guise of raking leaves and today Wilberforce is walking through the leaves with Uncle Ted. Well done young Thorny. You have chosen the better path. But no, you wonāt have to start school again!
From my standpoint each decade get I get a little more achy. But once you reconcile yourself to your limitations things are just fine. So instead of working in the yard all afternoon, I break up the chores into shorter segments. A 20 minute power nap along the way helps too.
In fact compared to my peers, Iām more than just fine. A lot of it is attitude. Be happy where you are.
Ted isnāt wrong in my case. My mom died when I was 50 and my life took a drastic left turn I never saw coming. Found some things out that just about destroyed me but didnāt surprise me. Lost my job and was a hairās breadth from being homeless when I finally found another. Now I like my job much more than my last and Iām pretty much in charge of my store, maybe about to become a store manager but Iāll settle for keeping this one from falling apart before the actual manager comes back from medical leave next year.

It used to be that life began at 40. Now folks tend to delay marriage and building a family. So I suppose that 50 or even 60 is more the norm.
