I can relate to Larry on this. I haven’t experienced that many flight problems, but I obsess over things going wrong and getting stranded every time I go on a flight.
Never let your company plan your travel. They will get the cheapest possible flights, which will include red eyes and multiple lay-overs, and then expect you to be at work bright and early the next, or even same, day. This is, of course, assuming you are not a company exec, which in that case you will fly First Class with no lay-overs and get the following day off to recover from your tedious flight.
One time, I HAD to fly to Green Bay, WI IMMEDIATELY. It was on a Friday. So, I get to the customer’s site around 4:45 pm and they tell me to come back Monday. On the plus side, I drove down and saw my grandmother for what turned out to be the last time.
There’s a hole in the Bucket dear Liza dear Liza. Blame the traveler for the airline Industries troubles. There’s a hole in the logic dear Liza, a hole.
I did the traveling consultant thing for a brief time at a contract house I worked for. Sunday night flight to the remote office so you could be at work Monday AM; flight back home Friday evening so you’d have a day and a half of rest before you had to pack to start the cycle all over again. All on the client’s nickel.
You’ve all figured out where I stand on air travel these days, right? I had to drive home from New Jersey a few weeks ago when a certain unnamed airline decided to start cancelling my flights and rescheduling me to the next flight they were preparing to cancel. Seventeen hour drive home, but I called to check on a buddy who was headed farther than me, and who said his flight was still a ‘go’ when I drove away… and he was still one layover from getting back to the state he was trying to make it to. In the end, they’d cancelled flight after flight, sent him to another airport entirely, cost him another day of hotel expenses and a few Uber rides, a night in San Francisco, and god knows what kind of gastro intestinal distress from airport food.
I’m very anti-air travel for the past few years, as only half of my flights have sounded even a bit like the tickets I bought.

This is why God invented the train. (Apparently God’s name used to be Richard Trevithick.)

So, this conference is over a weekend? My husband had business trips like this, he was NOT a happy camper with working for 12 days straight.

Been there done that. Drove home from a closed O’Hare to Columbus through a sleet storm arriving home at 4:30 am. Fittingly it was Halloween
