President Abraham Lincoln: Four score and seven years ago, no postage necessary if mailed within the United States. Why you should never write an important speech on an envelope...
four score and seven years ago the post office was bankrolled by tax dollars and since 1971 , no tax dollars have been used, and so as the cost of living goes up , so must the postage.
the UPS and FEDEX rates also go up regularly as the cost of living goes up…..
..what is perpetual is ignorance
“Return to Sender - Addressee Unknown”, “No Apartment Number”, “Forwarding Order Expired”, “Insufficient Postage”, ” No Mail Receptacle” - I was in charge of handling returned mail for an insurance company b4 taking early retirement in ‘07.
I’m sure, by now, lots of those little yellow stickers are appearing on all the mail sent to my old USA (Unbearably Stupid-Bush Administration - Stupid & Bush were married, in a hotly disputed civil ceremony presided over by the Supremely-Biased Court in 2000) address.
nighthawks, that’s understandable, what is not very understandable is as a consumer, if it went up more periodically & by a sufficient amount it would be easier to keep track but by it going up so frequently by 1 cent or 2 cents at a time it makes it hard & inconvenient for people to adjust. That’s all I am implying. Peace. :)
Nozzi - Not sure if the US post has something like this but the Canada Post (different name, same lack of service) did come up with a reasonable solution. You can buy a roll of stamps that have no denomination printed on them. They are good for delivery of one standard letter. You pay the current rate when you buy the stamps, but if the rate goes up later, you don’t pay extra.

Actually US does have that Digital. That’s the solution I finally succumbed.
