My kids and I foolishly wore sandals to Great Sand Dunes National Park, but the sand that got in the sandals was burning hot. We had ideas of climbing the dunes and sledding down (we rented sleds), but our feet were cooked long before we got there. Thank goodness there’s a creek to play in.

That is why you dig your toes into the sand with each step, just an inch or so under the surface it is nice and cool.
