My boss liked “last but least…” and her fave “gorilla marketing” in memos when it’s “guerrilla marketing”.

It’s not force of will either. It’s force of ignorance.

Correctness is a conclusion. Conclusions are, by definition, subjective.

I could care less if I cared enough to make the effort.

It’s been going on for years. That is how, “ain’t” got in the dictionary.

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

and sadly force of will is what Trump is trying to do with the facts today … and it is hard to believe that so many people buy into it. I think they buy into it only because they feel somehow vindicated by Trump’s behavior – but why? That is the confusing thing.

“I could care less” is sarcasm. You’re saying the opposite of what you mean, everyone KNOWS that you’re saying the opposite of what you mean, and you have the added bonus of ticking off people who want everyone to say “I couldn’t care less” for accuracy’s sake.

This has been in usage for AT LEAST 50 years, and I know this because I’m nearing 60 and can remember using it when I was a kid.

There are actually IMPORTANT things to get upset about, if you must.

“It’s force of will that makes you correct.”

Uh, John, Scott—have you guys been sampling Scott Adams’ podcasts?

This reminded me of a phrase that most people use (including myself) that is actually backwards of what it was originally. “Have your cake and eat it too” is what most of us say. Think about it. If you have cake, of course you can eat it. The original phrase was, “Eat your cake and have it too.” If you eat it, you can’t have it because it is gone. The intention of both phrases is to ask for the impossible, so the phrase most commonly used has it backwards. (Thanks Simon Whistler)

When I was a kid, I once heard it as“I could care less, but I’m not sure how”, for a long time I just assumed people were were only saying part of the phrase “I could care less…”, because they cared so little they wouldn’t even use the full phrase.
