Isn’t it kind of hilarious how angry people get at the Political Representatives they elect when they’re pretty much a reflection of the common person that voted for them.

Or as Forrest Gump’s Mama said, “Stupid is as stupid does”.

Well, there’s speaking truth to power, and here’s speaking truth to stupid. (Actually, I think “stupid” is too kind, but this is a comics page.)

These certainly aren’t Republican voters holding one of their own accountable for criminal activity. They only get mad when their elected officials don’t vote the way THEY want them to.

As someone once said on “Hee Haw”, the difference between a horse race and a political race is that in a horse race the whole horse runs. And the more we voters look to government instead of to ourselves to ‘solve problems’ and give it the powers it claims to need to ‘solve’ them, the more attractive political office becomes to the most dishonest and power-hungry equine hindquarters, and the more repugnant it appears to the more decent among us because they know what that kind of power will do to their souls.

The voters should have gotten a clue when watching his TV show that ran for three seasons starting in 2004.

On one of the earlier Monk shows, Sharona tells Monk that she doesn’t vote because that just encourages them. Best summation of politics ever.

Alex de Tocqueville “In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve”.

If you don’t think about the future and the consequences of dumb but expedient actions, that’s what you get. It’s easier to vote for a party, rather than examining the candidate’s records, but it’s not smart nor helpful. Sometimes, it’s better not to vote.

It is never enough to simply show up every two or four or six years – all the tough decisions have already been made by then – you must involve yourself in politics at the granular level. Here in America your choices are limited to either “A” or “B”, the others on the ballot are just there to confuse you, so, if you’re not assisting at a local level to get someone elected you are deciding you’ll take whatever they throw at you.

The “parliamentary” system used by various European countries is slightly more equitable, but that, too, can descent into anarchy.

Get involved or be satisficed with whatever “They” decide is “best”!
