Yeah, when a customer walks in, throws a bag on the counter and demands a refund. Then says she wants the full price plus all the coupons because we always rip her off. You know it’s gonna get ugly and she’ll be demanding to speak to the manager.
I used to work in a warehouse store and the stuff people did just boggled my mind. One day we were folding clothes and straightening that section. We found a partially thawed lasagna half way down a pile. I was folding one day and a customer walked by, grabbed the top shirt in my pile, and threw it in the air. Then they just walked away. Or the lady who lost her receipt when she walked out of the store. They offered to print a copy but she had to have the original and swore it was on the roof. So we had to get a forklift, raise someone to the roof, and have them look for it. Never did find it. Long story short, people suck.
It never pays to be rude to customers. Their anger isn’t really personal, although some will try to make it personal. Those people want to provoke a reaction to feel justified in a public display of browbeating. No reaction – no satisfaction. Do your job. Call for a manager. Look for a better job.
My dad was in the dime store business. My mom, who was also a nurse, worked in the store. She had an amazing ability to insult people without their realizing she was doing it. I think she developed the skill working with crabby patients and rude doctors. I should have kept a notebook. She seemed friendly and low key while she did it. She wasn’t overly sweet or obsequious.
II refuse to treat other people rudely. My father did that, and it never got him anywhere. Being nice to people means they are more likely to help you.
