Hubby is a walking blast furnace. He can truly raise the temp in a room just by sitting around. In the winter, we sleep with the windows open, and in the summer the bedroom is cold enough to hang meat.
Hah! in the summer with just the window open (hate A/C) I have a blanket on my side of the bed and she has all her parts hanging outside the summer throw. Winter with the window open just a but (-20C) I have the winter comforter AND a blankie on my side.
I start the night without even a sheet and my wife is under a double-layer of down comforter; by 3 am, she’s kicked her covers off and I’ve pulled a blanket up.
This would not be such an issue if we had just called the AC “cool” like we call the furnace “heat.” Why did we make it so complicated? Then “turn the cool up or cool down” would be as clear as “turn the heat up or heat down.”
I live in FL where we have the A/C on every day for 5 months. But I can’t sleep with it on at night. The noise would wake me up. It is noisy as it turns on and off and the blowing sound is loud.
I’ve had the same person word it differently on different occasions: Could you turn the AC up? one time means turn it colder, but another time means turn the AC less cold (end result being warmer). Why not just state Turn the AC warmer, or Turn the AC colder?
I had this exact same issue once when I was driving and my passenger asked me to turn the AC up. Don’t remember which way I took that to mean, just that it was the wrong way and she was ticked.

Substitute “thermostat” for “A.C.” in that question to avoid confusion.

Warmer is up, cooler is down. Go by the temperature.

Gawd, I love this strip! I’m with Arlo — what the heck does it mean to turn the A/C up or down? I never understand that either…

If she was sleeping she was probably comfortable. He is going to fully wake her up with all these questions.

Up is bigger numbers, down is lower numbers. Philosophy works for AC or heat, winter or summer.
