Chat rooms vs comments section. Hmmm……

My computer desk has a decent keyboard and mouse, two wide-screen monitors at a proper viewing distance and a chair suitable for using all of the above – I can use it intensively for hours when I need to. The nearest I’ve even seen a laptop come to that is when I had one that could be plugged into a docking station to support all the peripherals and pretend it was a “proper” computer.

Hence I am in the kitchen on my new (@!!!!!!$$$$####) laptop to get away from sitting at my desk with my desktop looking at my husband at his desk across from me on his computer and watching what HE wants to watch on TV! I miss my old (2005 WinXP) computer that he just insisted that I had to replace – it was not that slow.

I prefer to hang on to a desktop and my designated workspace at home. My sister has 2 laptops and a desktop she barely touches!

We had AOL when everyone had AOL, and I had no idea what to do with it

Chat rooms were something to do on the internet, and they could sure suck up a lot of time

I have a smartphone but no tablet, no laptop. I still use a tower because my eyes feel better with two large-screen monitors. I also have a large, ergonomic keyboard. It’s much easier on my wrists and fingers.

I have the same set up at work, except that I also use Dragon Naturally Speaking. It saves a ton of time. Of course, if I didn’t have a private office, I wouldn’t be able to use Dragon.

How old is Arlo’s laptop anyway? I had an old Dell Inspiron laptop that looked all chunky and heavy like that once upon a time… like 19 years ago… ;-)

I went back to a wired mouse, to save on batteries. I wasn’t using it all around the house anyway.

Maybe he’s recovering from yesterdays fall and doesn’t want to move.

I keep my laptop on a TV tray table in the front room so I can watch TV while online. It’s called multi-tasking.

As I used to work in Computer Support, I have numerous boot options. An XP Virtual Window, my old XP PC, an old XP laptop(also not connected), a couple of hard drives in storage with boot OS’s on them, Diagnostic Boot CDs and USB drives, some DOS boot floppies, a second Windows 7 install on another hard drive in my main system, which I just used a couple of weeks ago. A program refused to install on my main drive, saying there was something wrong with my Direct-X 9 setup (which wasn’t true as I’d been happily playing a DX9 game for weeks). I changed my boot drive in the BIOS, installed the program, went back to my main boot, and the program ran fine.

My WiFi required weekly restarts if I used my laptop on it, so it’s tethered to an Ethernet cable.

Both chat rooms and Usenet groups are still out there. There are even apps for chat rooms. Do a Google search.

Those AOL chat rooms were fun and even a way to meet people back in the early days of the internet when predators and hackers were the exceptions.

I have used corporate desktop I bought from a computer store that sells the few years older corporate desktops. And this computer is in my basement and I use that while doing laundry at the same time.

They’re still around. You just gotta know where to look.

My 2400 BAUD modem went down and I had to quit Prodigy cold turkey. No more bulletin boards. It was rough.

I liked the CARL library.

Arlo needs more beer and less humus in his diet.

I used to be a regular on alt.comics.strips (I think it was called). Great people, great banter.

It simply evolved into this crazy multiverse we call Social Media.
