Boy is that ever familiar. I nudge her to ask if she understood what was said and get the response that she must have fallen asleep. I have to explain that I know since her snoring was covering the sound.
A hard and fast rule here is, if I’m out of the room for a breast scene, she either has to reverse it to the scene or show me hers. So far we’re about 50-50.
Which is why I won’t watch a series until it is no longer in production. Got tired of them turning into soap operas, forgetting their original premise for a season or three and then rushing back to the original idea and bringing it all to a conclusion. the wife loves them all; reality, drama, English period. I get a lot of reading done in the evenings.
We’ve fine tuned our schedule. A lot of BritBox/Acorn shows are multiparts so we watch one series at a single session. We have Netflix (had it forever) and Prime (for the shipping) but hardly watch them.
Wow – this is a scene right out of my house. My wife insists we watch some “dumb/dumber” Netlux series, and I’m fine with that because she works hard every day, and I’m retired. I can watch tv anytime she’s at work, so she gets it at night. However, in about 10 minutes she’s asleep.
There are too many series choices nowadays. You never want to start one you never heard of, cause you don’t want to invest time in something that might prove to be lousy after a season.
The biggest problem and disappointment of the past two years is we have had Saturday night date night since we started dating in the early 1970s. Dinner out and a movie. Shared love of movies – including old movies from the 1920s on – are what drew us together.
So, husband had to have Saturday night date night. More recently it consists of take out Chinese (at start of pandemic I cooked/prepared this dinner in addition to all of our meals) and a movie on TV. At first we ate dinner while we watched the movie – but midway through the pandemic he insisted we watch the movie after we eat dinner. He had bought Rokus for the TVs a couple of years before when he had a bad back (though straight through same we went out to the movies) so he he could watch TV in the living room (no other source there but Beta, VHS and DVDs). But every Saturday night we have kept our date watching the analog TV in the kitchen – Roku or cable. This past date we watched the new version of “West Side Story” – much better than we thought it would be – I actually like it better than the original. He must have liked it – I did not have to keep waking him up.
There was an “F Minus” comic last year where the man says to his wife on the other end of the couch: Will you please put that phone away and watch the TV with me?

According to Arlo in the second panel, the first seasons can be worth it.

Sounds like me and my husband! I just hand him the remote, as he is fairly picky about programs.

I agree with series getting ‘dumb’ after the first season. I recently started watching Heroes on Peacock and it’s really gotten very dumb.

I read, she watches tv. No problems.

My Janis and I must be really out of it. We prefer going to a theater for movies. We use tv for news and episodic programs.

Arlo don’t wake her up to watch any part of a movie that made her fall asleep!

About the only show my wife and I are both interested in is Columbo, and I ‘m usually asleep before he even appears in it.

They do not all get dumb after season one. Sometimes it takes longer to realize they didn’t have a plan.

So many unwatched netflix movies or series.
Get so dumb, not wasting time and just move on.

My wife and I never watch TV together. I like mysteries and she likes True Crime . . . Well, there is a difference.

Don’t they have any hobbies or interests? How boring to just watch TV or streaming services every night. Sad.

My late wife was like that with James Bond movies. She frequently wouldn’t even make it to the opening credits before she was out cold.
