I was on the receiving end of an odd gift from an Aunt. It looked like a pair of oversized socks. My Mother explained they were shoe covers to protect my luggage. I just wondered what was I going to do with them. Sixty some years later I am still using them and I say a little prayer for Aunt Rose each time.
I remember hearing the term “toilet water” on one of the old sitcoms as a kid. I looked that one up and couldn’t stop laughing. “Type of perfume used when a lady was performing her toilet” Didn’t really explain it well to a kid.
Late in her life, she was in her 80’s, we arranged for my son and his family to come visit my mom so she could meet her great grandkids. There were 4 generations in that room, it is a memory I treasure.
Guy came into work one morning with a big bruise on his forehead and when asked how that happened he said, "I was splashing some toilet water on my face after shaving and the lid fell down.
I remember a men’s cologne called “Toilet Water” when I was a boy. The bottle was shaped like a toilet & even had a little plastic seat that flipped up & down.

The real toilet water would probably been a lot cheaper.

I remember being taught embroidery decorating handkerchiefs. Does anyone use those things anymore? Pretty to look at, but so unsanitary when used.

I thought this was going to show young Arlo “shopping” in the bathroom for toilet water

Never understood the reason behind the gross title they gave toilet water.

I don’t know the difference between “parfum” and “perfume”, but “toilet water” is the most watered-down version.

I, for one, am thoroughly enjoying this arc.

I’m glad the boy had enough smarts to give Grandmama handkerchiefs and not actual toilet water.

Yeah. We once had a dog and all she wanted for Christmas was toilet water.

When I was a Cub Scout, we made our parents ashtrays for Christmas presents.

My daughter’s first tree ornament she made in craft class at day care is STILL on my tree every year, much to her consternation.

I guess the curly hair gene was drowned out by Jimmy’s dad’s.

Clever design, & I found it hilarious.

My German grandmother was the first person I knew that used Toilet water. However, in her case it was 4711 Kölnischeswaßer (aka cologne).

You should have two on you…. One for show, and one for blow!

Now we know that JJ is the one doing the remembering, not Arlo. And I am guessing that JJ modeled Gus after his childhood friend Wayne.

Young Arlo thought hankies were more sanitary than what he thought “toilet water” was.
