Had to look it up… “Artiodactyla, or cloven-hooved mammals, include such familiar animals as sheep, goats, camels, pigs, cows, deer, giraffes, and antelopes — most of the world’s species of large land mammals are artiodactyls.”
I learn something new nearly every day here on GC. Artiodactyla is the study of even toed ungulates, including hippos, giraffes, antelope, deer and others.
Arteriodactyla are ungulates with an even number of functional toes (every vertebrate has 5 toes on each limb, which is an oddity greater than you can imagine.)I say “functional” but the order includes dolphins, porpoises and whales.
You know I just HAD to look it up—“even-toed ungulates”—isn’t that helpful? hoofed animals. . .now, let’s see, exactly where can I fit that little tidbit into conversation???

Better than he could have ever imagined = he came back out of the mouth of the hippo alive and (pretty much) intact.

Both Clumsy and awkward.

I only see three toes on that hippo. I suppose if you count all four feet it comes out even.

That wasn’t Arty the Dactylia! I think that was the first version of Barney the Purple Potamus.

Great now the Artiodactyla is going to have to wash his mouth out!

I wonder if that lion on the rock is in there

I wonder if the hippo is a relative of Terry Dactyl.

At least the hippo didn’t swallow him.

I wouldn’t have thought Hippos walked on their toenails. As so many mammals do, it was likely, I guess.

The truth is Clumsy Carp just taste bad. Other wise his study of Artiodactyla species would have resulted in nothing, as he would have been eaten.
angmgre2 over 1 year ago
Do we really want to know what happened at the watering hole prior to the hippo swallowing Clumsy?
BiathlonNut over 1 year ago
I believe hippos are responsible for more deaths than are other dangerous animals in their areas of habitation.

Stereotyping the scientist with glasses. So hard to avoid stereotypes these days though.

A Hippopotamus is Latin for “water horse” at this “horse” is out of it’s element.

That’s pretty gentle treatment from a hippo. They are powerful and bad-tempered, and use those big jaws and tusks to deliver tremendous bites.
