I’ve never sewn my sleeve to a project, but I have created unintended darts and puckers.

I think the equivalent for knitters is to start knitting a tube (sleeve, sock), only to discover that it’s actually a Möbius strip.

Two of my sisters have sewn their fingers into projects.

When I was in 8th grade we all took a sewing course – I still have the apron I made. I don’t recall anyone sewing themselves to the project.

Over the years in my job fixing the many departmental PCs where I worked, I have literally put my blood, sweat, and tears into them… ☺

I learned to sew in 7th grade. Our first project was to make miniature pillows. I vaguely recall making so many of those pillows, I started giving them away to family members as gifts even though they were useless unless you had a doll house or something. lol

I hope she bought a seam-ripper.

LOL! My wife made most of her own clothes in the 70s. :-)

I started hand sewing doll clothes when I was 5. I’m now 74 and can’t let a day go by without at least 30 minutes at the machine. Over the years I made most of my clothes, my 2 daughters clothes and formals and 2 wedding dresses. Now all I do is quilt. Much easier, and way more satisfying.

My mother would have some scathing words for Betty’s first attempts. She (mother) was a perfectionist in everything she took an interest in, to the point that my sister and I would NOT even attempt to use the sewing machine.
