Brings to mind that old sled dog saying: If you’re not the lead dog, the view never changes.

No, you’re fine. But while I’m here, how about petting my back, rubbing my belly, scratching my ear, or kissing …

Nope. Everything is just right. A little pat or two, settling in a ball on your stomach and chest and you’ll be back to your book in no time. Or, share the nap.

Your cat is expressing how very much she loves you. Maybe she’s not doing it in a way you’d prefer, but that’s on you.

She’s coming between you and your book, saying ‘pay attention to me.’ She wants the two of you to do something together.

And she’s rubbing on the book, marking it with her scent. (Thankfully, we can’t smell the mark. And be very glad she’s not a dog, because their equivalent is peeing.) Cats use this scent mark on people, places and things they love.

Contrast this with the image people project of cats as cold and uninterested in us.

And they say cats aren’t affectionate. I LOVE it when either of my cats do this.

“Why yes, yes you are.” Then the cat pushes the book down on the guy’s lap & lies down on it. “Much better.”

That’s how cats read. Scent is their primary means of communication.

Two of our cats danced around my ankles this morning. Almost tripped over them on the way to fill their plates. Salmon and chicken for them this AM.
