This cartoon just took me back 40 years, when my 3 year old, who we had taken to a small town circus, that had a pony ride at the half time intermission… and my son had seen the kids riding the ponies around in a circle, and wanted a ride too, but the circus itself was about to start and we told him we would go later… and through the first half of the circus, all we heard from him was “I want a pony ride, I want a pony ride”…( like a kid in a car asking “are we there yet?”)… and we kept telling him.. "In a little while!….In a little while! "Finally at halftime my husband was on line while I ran for a ticket…. and he finally got his wish…. and no sooner had his butt hit the saddle, he was screaming, “GET ME OFF THIS THING!!!”
When I was in Junior High, I lived in a Subdivision that was near another Subdivision that was very close to a Professional Stable. Periodically, the Stable would bring horses over and give free Pony Rides to the little ones…
Mom made me take my brother riding. Turns out he was afraid of horses. Mile out and a mile back, they wouldn’t let me break line and go back to the stables.
I love horses but have never ridden on one. Where I live now, there used to be quite a few horse corrals and stables. That’s when there was a lot of horsing around in my town!
Over 60 yrs ago, there was a pony riding place about 1 1/2 miles ftom our house. For .25, you could ride a pony around the area twice. I was always so excited. It was better than the mechanical horse that cost .01 at the front of the grocery store. Those were the good old days. There us a store that I shop at that has a mechanical horse and it is only .01 to ride. Unfortunately i am not the 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 yr old girl I was back in the 50s!!!

Love that snarky expression on the horse’s face! See you in the ER, Nerwin! ;-)

A similar thing can happen with other kinds of rides.
I’m thinking of that first climb on a roller coaster – especially as it nears the top and is about to drop.

(senses a suspicious horse in this cartoon)

I rode a horse once. It tried to throw me and failed. Obviously not a professional rodeo horse, because I was just a kid. Once was plenty.

Many folks don’t realize how strong a horse really is. They are some of the most strongest and powerful animals!
