Wow, I actually never got this one as a kid. It’s only looking at the onomatopoeia that I figured it out.

Sorry, but I decided to Google it. It’s from Latin gallicula to Old French galoche to Middle English galosh meaning “shoe” and then “shoe with a wood sole” and then “overshoe”. So the word has a very long history, and was never onomatopoeia. The comic is still cute, though. :)

Felt so rebellious the first time I had “shoe boots” not galoshes. We weren’t supposed to wear our boots in school so “shoe boots” weren’t allowed. We also weren’t supposed to wear “play clothes.” I wasn’t the only boy in jeans, but I was the only kid with a bib.

The real story here is that Calvin is putting on his boots with his mittens on. That’s not an easy task. Talk about determination!

This usually happens to all of us.

What I noticed was that the snow is over the tops of his galoshes. I suppose he’s feeling the snow inside them melting on his socks and feet. ugh, shiver
