The Batmobile also didn’t have a cassette player — maybe an 8-track — but not cassette player.

What if the city is in trouble during the day when Dad is just being Dad?

Try pushing random buttons on the car to see if they do anything.

When you were born, Dad gave up the adventurous and superhero life and passed it on to you, Spaceman Spiff and all your other personas.

Of course, Dad just has to push a button and the car transforms into a lean, mean, crime-fighting machine!

Cleaning out clutter the other day, I found my old cassette to CD adapter. Remember those? They let you use a portable CD player with your car’s cassette player. Now it all seems quaint, but it hasn’t really been that long.

Not sure where I put my superhero costume. You may have heard of me: Forgetful Man. I think.

I can remember my cars that had them… I wonder what Calvin’s parents had in that tiny hatchback? AM/FM radio (not stereo)? Or even just an AM radio?

I can remember the only way to listen to audio CDs in my old car was to use a cassette adapter with the wire dragging out of the slot and out to the portable CD player on the seat. I still have a new, unused cassette adapter for my XM radio in my electronics drawer too… :-P

Psst, Calvin. Your mom dons a weird costume too. But your parents don’t do it to go out and fight crime.

The batmobile doesn’t need a cassette player or 8-track it must have a high frequency radio with Bluetooth and wifi to connect to every radio and other device in Gotham so it basically can play any song Batman wants or link into any conversation from , police transmission to cell phones ECT.

I can still remember the first car we got with a cassette deck, around 1997. But of course nowadays, that last line would be “I know. Ours doesn’t even have Bluetooth or USB connections!”

For the Green Hornet the Black Beauty was his car at night. He drove a convertible by day as Publisher Britt Reid. He parks. Sets the clamps then rotates it to get to the BB and drive out through the secret entrance into the night. So Calvin would never get to ride in the Black Beauty. What a car…

Strange how the little details reveal the age of the comic, even when the broad outline is timeless.

I enjoy reading old novels (crime noir, anyone?) from time to time… and often stumble over a passage where the author mentions the price of something: Breakfast, taxi-fare, a month’s rent. The story’s still as good as it ever was, after you step over the blip.

The Batmobile didn’t need a cassette player. Obviously Batman invented digital music way ahead of time. The proof is in the TV series. Every time the Batmobile zoomed down the street we’d hear “Da da da da da da da BAT MAN!”

    Way ahead of his time.
