Careful, Calvin. Both the fire and hot cocoa are hot. Try not to burn.

what’s real living, Hobbes, when it’s not winter? a can of tuna fish between two slices of bread?

And if the marshmallow is still hot, your lip might sting a little. Now, that’s scary!

Wise decision , kid!

Both are good, if you ask me.

Both will kill you in the end, Chocolate and Marshmallows just take a bit longer than Mount Maim.

So Calvin has Mount Maim close to his home? No way his parents would let him travel afar on his own….well of course with Hobbes.

But there is something to be said for a cute nurse in the orthopedic ward.

Agreed! Must buy cocoa and marshmallows next grocery run!

The sled lodge is the main attraction at Mount Maim.

Hobbes has the right living principle!!

I am with Hobbes!

I think real living is being able to metabolize, reproduce, and respond to stimuli

The problem with being a type A personality is that it can get you killed.

Calvin got talked out of that easily.

It’s better than panicking

Calvin the adreneline junkie…

Ah yes. That fateful day when the Marine realizes he is in the Department of the Navy.

So the risk here is that the fire might throw a spark and burn Calvin? Where’s the fire screen?

Up until the cocoa, I thought we were about to have a Jim Morrison moment.

Isn’t it ‘adrenaline’?

With a shot of Baileys or a coffee with Kahlua, but obviously not for Calvin and Hobbes.

What a couple of sissy weasels.

Hobbes for President!

My cat has her opinion about letting the wood burning stove go cold. At 3 a.m. she jumps on the bed and paws with a claw half out at body parts exposed from the blankets and leads us to the stove.

Actually, I’ve had too many years of the latter. Give me the former and as Karen Carpenter sang: ♪ When a man becomes a boy once again ♪ (“First Snowfall of the Winter”)

If you have to risk your life to feel good, that’s messed up. If you’re doing it to save and protect others, good on you.

At least marshmallows can’t maim you!

Common sense prevails……

In front of the fireplace, is where I have stayed at a ski lodge.

Calvin, if you want adrenalin, try kissing Susie.

I’ve always thought that really living Life to its fullest takes a healthy mix of every experience you can imagine.

Gotta love how this was aired close to the “there is no middle ground” strip.

Hobbes: ‘The better angel of his nature’…

Mount Main will be there for another day.

Calvin always had the best sledding hills. Even as a young teenager when these strips came out I wished I could find sledding hills like that.

wasn’t it earlier this week calvin called hobbes a wimp for getting ofo before the ravine?

Couldn’t agree more as I sit by the wood stove sipping my cocoa.

So right, Hobbes.

Apres ski. Always the best part.

“I like to stare Death straight in the eye and make him blink!” Reminds me of the scene in “A Disagreement with Death” by Craig Shaw Gardner, where Wuntvor (aka The Eternal Apprentice) engages Death in a staring contest.

I’m with Hobbes.

And now they are very fine and happy together!!

But the fastest way to get to that cup of cocoa is to face death by rapidly descending the mountain on an unguided snow-sliding death machine.

Calvin’s hair in the last panel looks like its part of the fire.

That is a very wise imaginary friend.
