I had a conversation similar to that with my parents. I decided I wouldn’t do my assigned chores. I discovered pretty quickly I could simply do my chores or do my chores with a sore backside.
Reminds me of my younger brother when we were teens. He would not clean his room or make sure his laundry was in the hamper. When She Who Must Be Obeyed had enough she waited for a school day and took everything he owned and put it in a cleaned out storage room/closet about 6’x6’. The was a cot pad thrown in too for sleeping.
Bro was just as stubborn and did not care either so he made it his own for three years. Sometimes the smell was so bad, even with a tiny window opened, that we had to close the door if it had cracked open.
We thought his stint in the USMC would change him. Nope. Decades later he is a hoarder, morbidly obese, and sickly after being fired from many jobs including the one and only one I helped him to get.
As much as I hate to say it and would never tell anyone I know, he and his wife also depend upon social security and disability payments. Parasite is a good descriptive word.
Feeding and sheltering your child is your DUTY as a PARENT, and one that is bound by LAW. Don’t hold that over your kid’s head to get them to do things for you.

That’s why people reminisce about childhood. It was a time when they could have this attitude.

Calvin changed his self-image from worthless layabout to an irritant that feeds off its hosts, as if that is a win.

“In parasitic content”…..It’s what kids do. The key nowadays is to get them weened off by the time they’re 25.

Wow, his mom is being cold this morning. Not sure how much she expects a six year old to do around the house.

People work to get something or to avoid something. Some people get a hiding for avoiding work.

Fleas or Ticks? I’d say kids are like giant ticks. They suck the life from you, then drop off and disappear.

This was the fundamental problem with Soviet-style communism. Not that laissez faire capitalism had much to brag about.

The snarky look Calvin gives his mom in the next-to-last panel epitomizes a lazy kid better than just about any other image I’ve ever seen.

Terrific art. I’ve said it before, and probably will say it again (try and stop me!), Mr Watterson loves to draw. For which we can all be grateful.
