Calvin’s thought pattern operates like a möbius strip.

Calvin is like Scarlett O’Hara.

When faced with a unpleasant situation, she’d say, “Oh, I won’t think about it now. I’ll think about it tomorrow.”

Sounds like what’s happening in Florida doesn’t it.

English is so amazing: there is a term for that. It’s called “being a Pollyana” – from a 1913 novel about an absurdly optimistic orphan.

I am all for optimism and have just gotten back in touch with the most optimistic woman I have ever known. However, she is not the kind who would be hanging to a tree limb in a hurricane shouting “But we really needed the rain!”

I have been practicing that philosophy for years. The trick is to sprinkle in positive truths so you are anchored in reality.

Hobbes is not buying this logic….

I wish Watterson was making this stuff up but, honestly, everything I’ve read in this arc is stuff I’ve heard (nearly verbatim) from actual adults :-(.

I’m working hard at denying that my savings are in free fall and that inflation is eating up my income.

As someone on the spectrum, it’s hard to try not to think about anything that’s unpleasant.
