Parenting Tip: Let bears do the dirty work.

Hobbes passed him going up, apparently

CLimbing a tree to escape a bear doesn’t work. If it’s a black bear he’ll just climb up the tree and eat you. If it’s a grizzly, he’ll just push the tree down and eat you.

Now this one is truly funny, especially Cal’s ‘headline.’

Calm down, Calvin. Bears will only attack if you do anything to threaten them, like approach their cubs.

A Black Bear lumbered across the trail in the High Sierra right in front of me Monday, didn’t even look at me when I said hello. I probably walked right past many more in the thick forest without seeing them. Zero interest in people.

And a hired bear at that.

It could be one of your parents looking for you, Calvin.

It will be getting dark soon…. and time to go home and face reality, and Mom and Dad.

In this mornings news… sure as I’m drinking coffee and reading the paper.

I have read that In Siberia, Siberian tigers are known to ambush & kill brown bears, especially when other prey is scarce. It seems the tiger has to surprise the bear though.

I don’t know if bears and tigers overlap anywhere else in the world, and siberian tigers are the largest extant wildcats, noticably larger than other strains of tigers, but it is one data point that a tiger can take on a bear.

Off topic: does anyone know where I can get a print of Calvin stretching his mouth and baring his teeth? It features on the Calvin store pop up, but is nowhere to be found in the store itself.
