Recording: "I con a bit. But I con smart"
TJ: "Good clarity on these phone recorders, huh?"
Annie: "That proves nothing, TJ. Unless I say "this is Ann Eiffel" There's no proof it's even me"
Recording: "This is Ann Eiffel"
The “oh crap” expression in the last panel is telling. She can feel the guillotine blade descending. Remains to be seen if she can pull out a last-ditch defense before it strikes.
The things TJ recorded may not be specific enough to get AE in trouble. If she told Corporate that TJ is a disgruntled employee trying to get even – Ann might prevail.
Real whistleblowers blow the whistle without giving the villain advanced warning. I think TJ’s setting up a little blackmail. He’s graduating from Eddie Haskell to J. R. Ewing.
For me, unfortunately, I think what TJ has shown he has recorded IS too weak to have any real impact on Eiffel’s job or position. And, even though Ann seems to be taking pause at having been captured on the voice recorder, the evidence shown still is too flimsy. I am hoping that there is still something left to this arc for Saturday, because (at least to me) this being the ending seems a little flat. I will keep my fingers crossed that tomorrow has some added bonus that zings the ending up a bit.
Ann’s not as smart as I thought. Back when she was Bernice’s boss, she seemed like this unbeatable villain. The only reason she was banished to Tokyo was because Zane happened to know an attorney. Maybe it’s because we’re seeing this story from the perspective of a grown man used to swindling and sneaking rather than a somewhat naive 16 year-old girl, but it does seem like Ann’s gotten dumber. I don’t think the AE who was Bernice’s boss would have made a mistake like that. But that’s just my opinion.
…
I am loving this arc. I wish I could comment more, but usually by the time I log on, it’s like ten minutes before the next day’s strip comes out, so there’s no point in commenting. I like making crazy predictions. A couple of days ago, I actually wrote a funny one, but I got carried away. It came out super long, so I never actually submitted it. But dang it was fun to write. It was so hilarious I didn’t want to get rid of it, so I copied and pasted it into Word and saved it to my computer. With a space between each paragraph, it came out to about 3 pages… I need a more constructive way to relieve stress.
I don’t think TJ’s scared of women. (And as I write this I remember you having the same argument with Mojitobaby… and now I’m convinced you have something to do with her disappearance.) He does the same thing to women as he does to men- cons them.
…
By your logic, TJ would be scared of men as well. I don’t know if any of you are psychologists and think TJ’s more antisocial tendencies are rooted in fear and that he lives his life too insecure to have any honest interactions with anyone… which would actually be an interesting theory. But even if that was the case, TJ would show no more fear towards women than he would towards men, so bang goes that theory.
“Tiff loses her crown when the Chamber of Commerce removes the title from her. Ann needs to tell TJ to take it to court, and remind him that the statue of limitations is not up for his crimes.”
…
It would be pretty cool if Ann tried to get Tiff to testify AGAINST TJ, reminding the teenager of how much it stung to lose the title “Miss Chamber of Commerce” while TJ got off scot-free. Then, the ditzy blond would have to choose between revenge on TJ for the slight or siding with her new friend Ox.
It’s Time! Who will make the move? I think it would have to be Ann – when it appears she has beaten TJ in their little game – suddenly – a big embrace & smooch
Ox isn’t obligated to be on TJ’s side, but he is. He doesn’t think Ann should be a manager. Ox is bound to have heard things around school about Tiffany not being very nice. If he has, at this point, he believes they are wrong and that Tiff really is nice. He might not continue to think this if he sees Tiffany siding with Ann. “You look real pretty, but you’re not nice,” Ox would say simply before turning his back on Tiffany and walking away.
…
“Ox, wait!” Tiffany cries, but Ox doesn’t even turn around. Tiffany cries harder as Ox moves further and further away, and she realizes that, for the first time in her life, she has some thinking to do.
But the fact that Zane knew this attorney is what led to the Ann issue being resolved. I should have said Zane happened to be friends with an attorney. Probably worked at a discounted rate, seeing as how Zane probably didn’t make very much.
In the abstinence strip, he mentioned a girlfriend named Rosa when he was talking about communicating with your partner about sex. Remember the one with Luann daydreaming about Aaron Hill holding a T shirt saying “Waiting is Sexy.” It’s even posted on the Comics Curmudgeon.
…
TJ doesn’t AVOID the fairer sex. He cons them. In high school, when all those girls wanted to get with him, he used this to his advantage. Delta did his homework for him, Tiffany made him fudge and offered to carry his books, etc.
…
If he’s so dedicated to scheming and cheating that there is no room for any other emotion, then it is not fair to say that he fears women. He would not react to women with fear; rather, he would see a female as a challenge- another person to con. A person who, he has learned from experience, he can sometimes grease the wheels with by flirting.
OK, checked the 6-6-99 strip. I stand corrected. TJ didn’t graduate. But I still think he had to have gotten his GED to be able to enroll in the EMT course.
Whatever you may think about TJ, he did the smart thing by not giving the younger version of Luann even a peck on the forehead. He’s hung around the Degroot house long enough to know how much she’ll obsess over that.
“I’m going to ding him about it every chance I get.”
…
Why, though? He clearly got his GED. I think he may have been still in high school when he took his dying mother back to Italy. By the time he got back, he would have missed too much school. Probably dropped out rather than have to repeat the grade and struggle to remember everything and concentrate on schoolwork when neither of your parents are around and you’re still mourning your mother.
Hmmm… that’s a tough one. I always assumed they had, but Greg couldn’t specifically mention it because Luann’s a family-friendly strip. I’ll hunt down evidence and have my answer tomorrow.
I’m 23, and Leviticus’ human persona is 58 (according to his profile). However, his online self is 24, has a six-pack, and has jet black hair reaching his shoulders. I wonder which version I’d see if we skyped an evening out?

How would having some unknown voice on a recording say “I’m Ann Eiffel” prove it’s her?

The question is, what is TJ going to do with it?
Tinyman about 12 years ago
TJ should have just sent that to Corporate before he played the evidence back to her.

Ah, Ann, do you know the old Klingon proverb that tells of revenge is dish that is best served cold? It is very cold in the unemployment line….

A lame, limp ending to a stupid storyline: in other words, a typical Greg Evans job.
