Mitt Romney: ...and as a Mormon, you'd be giving up drinking, smoking and premarital sex! Parisian: Monsieur, you know you're in France, non? Mitt Romney: Oui, France! Land of free health care! Universal coverage is such a marvelous idea! If I ever become a governor like my dad, I'm going to make sure my state has it! Parisian: Your people will accept it? Mitt Romney: Maybe! If not, I can repudiate it as French-style socialism! An American in Paris, 1968.

That’s the good thing about the French, you can love them and hate them at the same time (I know, it is suppose to be about Willard flip-flopping).

Mitt changes so often, I kind of wonder if he has beginning Alzheimers disease. He forgets people who work for him, he’s always having to be corrected by his campain people after the fact. Doesn’t that kind of sound like he’s got some kind of memory problem?

Someone brought up the issue of the fact that Romney’s faith didn’t rescind the ban on blacks into the priesthood until 1978. (Joseph Smith DID ordain blacks; the ban originated with Brigham Young.) Many 19th-century Protestants entertained the notion that blacks were descendents of Cain and bore his curse (marked physically by black skin). In Mormonism it became more than just popular, it was canon. Protestants could dispose of the notion more easily, since they could cogently attribute it to bad translations and/or unsupported speculation. Mormons had to overturn a supposedly infallible prophet..If that speaks ill of Romney, what does it say about Obama that he belonged to a church that NEVER gave up the racist theology of Rev. James Hal Cone?.How do I know about this racism? From Cone himself, in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1X5sZ6Q4Fw.He says to be a Christian you have to identify with the victim. At 11;25 he says, “Now, how do I, how do I know that you really are identifying with the victim? Well, if you are identifying with the victim, you not only want to feel good about that, you also have to pay back that which you took. You just don’t say please forgive me now. The only way in which your repentance, your forgiveness can be authentic, your reception of it can be authentic, your repentance can be authentic is that you give back what you took.” .In real life, large groups of people from one class may abuse large numbers from another, but entire classes are not at war with each other. Cone is a typical class-warfarist. He believes in the concept of collective guilt – not that just all whites are guilty for what whites did in the past, but that by simply being white we as individuals took something from blacks..J. Wright’s legendary “G-d Damn America” remark sure sounds like collective-guilt-tripping to me.

I’m not speaking for all atheists—that would be impossible—but your comment is condescending and insulting. That you probably don’t understand why is part of the problem.Actually, maybe this will show you. How would you feel if someone said to you, “May the blessings of Allah be upon you”? Or used one of the thousands of other gods you don’t believe in?When you understand why you don’t believe in those other gods, you will understand why I don’t believe in yours.

“Give an inch and [the rabble will] demand a mile.”πThe military-indusstrial-financial complex (MIFC) in America has far more than the American people’s “mile”. The MIFC has America by the throat. It pays for the campaigns of virtually all candidates for House, Senate and Presidency of both parties. Its lobbyists write virtually all legislation to lop-sidedly favor itself at the expense of the American people. It rides the back of working America with a whip and spurs. π“Rabble”, huh? πMarie Antoinette: “Let them eat cake.”

“‘Gov. Romney had a good night. I had a bad night. It’s not the first time I’ve had a bad night,’ Obama said in an ABC interview.”πWell, Obama better kick Romney’s backside in debate number two, or it could be all over for both him and us lefties, who are having to choose between the lesser of two weevils (don’t argue, sports fans, google it up).

Does anyone know WHERE in France Romney did his missionary service? Robert Kennedy used to take friends, family and supplies into the Allegheny mountains where they helped poor families in Penn, W. Va., and other areas fix homes and just show them that folks cared. Huntsman, the other Mormon who ran for Repub nominee this year did his service in Taiwan and I’ve seen pics of him working beside residents in fields and homes. What has Romney done to immerse himself into a population of people who are living hand to mouth due to causes over which they have no control? What is the longest he ever went without having his father’s protection and/or money nearby to rescue him? I could believe he was more real if I knew. As it is, he has made so many public statements since 1990 that totally contradict the ones he has made since 2010 I don’t know who he is. Curiously,C.

BY 1968, Mitt’s father, George, no longer supported the war in Vietnam. In 1967 George famously said that his earlier support was due to “brainwashing” by US officials and senior military officers. So if Mitt was supporting the war in 1968, did he and his daddy have their own generation gap?

<“To Tell the Truth” game show of the 50’s 60’s: “Will the real Mitt, please stand up!”>#The REAL Mitt can’t stand up (for anything) because the REAL Mitt no longer exists! If Romney tried to consistantly support just one idea (either Liberal or Conservative) one or more of his contributors would pull the plug on him. Besides, Mitt has come so far in flip-flopping that he will eventually repeat one or more of his stances he took years ago. All we have to do is wait for awhile, maybe during the next debate and Mitt will be supporting “Romney-Care”, “Tax breaks for the middle class” and most or all of the things Obama supports. Maybe if Barack flip-flopped himsef and began to support Republican ideas it might confuse Romney enough to make Mitt look stupified.

Actually, you’d be surprised what goes on in Salt Lake City.[]Back in the 1800s, the federal government decided to run the railroads through the state in an effort to force the state to become more like the rest of the nation.[]It worked. Thanks to all of the non-Mormons who have been swarming the state, Utah now has a lot of the same social problems as the rest of America. []On top of that, you’ve got the street preachers, who show up 2+ times a year and make a mockery of Christianity as a whole by their cold-hearted protest efforts against the church; name a sin that Jesus warned against, and the street preachers commit it in God’s name.

Wow, the XVI-ieme. That’s the Champs Elysee etc. – the best addresses in central Paris. Can’t think of any bad streets around there. My six months in Paris were spent in a tiny hotel room on the top floor of a hotel in a left bank side street, with a hole in the bottom of the door that a rat had gnawed himself so he could come in every night. Happy days…

I’m always amused when I hear right-wingers accusing liberals of racism. Classic conservatism. Accuse your opponents of what you are most guilty of. Can you say projection, boys and girls?

Apparently he also complained about the lavatory being a ‘hole in the ground’. Worth bearing in mind that a lot of French lavatories then were of the ‘squat’ variety, though if he did then spend some time in the country I could well believe the literal truth of it (been there, done that).
We don’t get too much detail over here of his account – what has he said about Paris in 1968? That was the time of the Sorbonne occupation, massive student and trade union marches, barricades, cobblestones flying, etc. Bliss was it on that dawn to be alive, but to be Mitt was very hell, i should think.

Nicely done lookinside. That’s worked for me and it can work because religion is not spread through logic or reason, but through terror. Little children are threatened with burning in hell if they question any of the fantasies that religion teaches and also face the loss of parental approval and love. For many of those door-knocking bible thumpers, any fresh information they hear, or having it put to them in a new way can upset the delicate balance of living in a fantasy world. Here’s a couple questions I’ve asked: so you really believe that Eve just sprung from Adam’s rib fully formed? You really believe there was a talking snake? Did Noah really get his ark to Australia, the North Pole, and the Galapagos Islands and save all the animals that are only found there? Do you agree with the bible passages about keeping slaves, treating women as property, relentlessly murdering your enemies and their little children and taking the young girls as sex slaves/wives?

Guard Sgt, while I am not an Obama fan, it isn’t so much that liberal policies are running this country broke, but you can be sure that the war(s) are. While we need to be on defense, offense outside of our borders(supporting other countries) is not right. We are large enough that we can bully countries into giving up terrorists or getting out of our way. No country would go against the US if we would fight all out war, limited war never works.

Dylan, men of the LDS were being obliterated by the US army, actually hunted, much like the American Indians were. This is the reason for poligamy, there were so many fatherless families.

My, oh my, oh my, down 2 games in the best of 5 play off series and the NL MVP, Buster Posey with his Hall of Fame baseball name nails a grand slam and wins the series. I know there’s some people who like the Yankees, but it’s pretty clear who the Baseball Gods prefer. I think there’s some people in NY still bitter over the Giants/UN trade. Does anyone know why the Yankees won’t let ARod hit for himself? I thought when you make ARod money you’re supposed to do everything. Now for the NFL, looks the the super bowl champs have the Niners where they want them this week, brimming with confidence.
Back to leftwing on the mistress controversy, I checked Fall’s book and Wikipedia and they give de Castries credit for the mistresses.
“It has been rumored that all the fortified positions at DBP had been given names of Col de Castries mistresses. That rumor has remained unverified.”
While it’s more refreshing to squabble over French mistresses than politics, let’s be open minded enough to acknowledge than the French high command may have shared mistresses.
As far as de Castries command goes that was just an illusion. Several officers before him were given the opportunity to command, but passed it up because they recognized it as a loser plan. It became clear to the other French officers at DBP that de Castries wasn’t up to the challenge, so the Parachute Mafia led by Col Langlais usurped de Castries’ command and took control for the rest of the siege, and de Castries acquiesced after all he’s French.
FriscoLou about 12 years ago
“The side being acquiesced to may not know how to handle it.”
The French forces at DBP were a diverse group made up with colonial troops from N Africa and Viet Nam, French/Vietnamese paratroops, and Legionnaires made up with a good number of SS types, they’d know how to handle it problem was, their base Beatrice was knocked off right away in one night (just like the mistress) and that demoralized every one. Gabrielle and the paratroops went down a night or two later.

The VP debate — Biden v. Ryan — is underway. Maybe we lefties should resign ourselves to a Romney-Ryan victory and eight more years even worse than the eight Bush-Cheney years. Alas. Will Americans never learn?

Where editorial cartoons are concerned, there are trolls representing both sides. There are also lots of thoughtful dialectic minds with whom it is fun and educational to debate, teach, and from whom to learn. When you go into the ocean or a large national park like yellowstone, you become part of the food chain. The same can be said here. If you put a thought out there, those who disagree, or who feel their paradigms threatened often respond. The better ones respond with reason and facts, the trolls take a much lower path. We need more “Peace Trolls”.People who, no matter there affiliation, are willing to point out what you just did in the way you did. Both parties are using divisive tactics to advance their goals and the American people suffer. Turning neighbor against neighbor is dishonorable and unethical. After a time, you recognize the names of the worst offenders and your eyes just glaze over as you go down to the next name. Hope to see you again Jersey. Brings to mind another Jersey boy I like, Jon Stewart.Respectfully,C.
