Rat: Check it out, Goat. It's a pie cooling on that windowsill. We're supposed to steal it. It's a comic strip gag dating back to the great depression. Goat: I'm gluten-intolerant, and there's now way that's gluten-free. Rat: Well, that made for a good comic strip.

When he made the comment, it was still Thanksgiving on the West Cost.
Proginoskes about 12 years ago
The gag is to steal it, Goat. You don’t need to eat it.
Sisyphos about 12 years ago
If you’ve got a complaint, Rat, take to That Sad Little Man, a.k.a. Cartoon-Boy. I snickered at this one….

It’s better than what they did in “Family Guy” when the steam from the pie raped Peter.

How does Goat KNOW it’s not a gluten-free pie. In my town, odds are it would be. Yeah, I know… we’re thinking of moving.
Carl Rennhack Premium Member about 12 years ago
Soupy Sales would have made very good use of that pie!
jmartin1955 about 12 years ago
To much of an insider joke. Mildly amusing.
orinoco womble about 12 years ago
Kind of like buying a bag of mixed salad greens labelled in large letters: GLUTEN FREE!! Yes, well I would hope so!
hcr1985 about 12 years ago
I would get that pie, and I would also pick up Cool Whip on the way home!!

Goat should learn to be less tolerant of Rat.

Sometimes Goat can be a killjoy but he’s still adorable.

That’s the difference between Goat and Rat. Goat is a celiac and Rat is a silly hack.
Soroxas about 12 years ago
Don’t hate me, but I prefer pecan pie
BlackScorpion1910 about 12 years ago

Hmmm…so, in the Great Depression, when people were starving, it was a great gag to steal someone’s pie? How funny….
finale about 12 years ago

Perkycat about 12 years ago

Today’s strip is rated PG (Paris Goat); tomorrow we’ll be back to the stuff that’s rated R (Rat).

I am very sorry for your child. The problem here is that so many people are on “gluten free”(or whatever the bad food of the month is) that many places will sell it anyway. like the little boy that called “wolf”, this is a disaster waiting to happen. Allergies are not to be messed with, but when they are claimed wrongly, others do not believe.

Just eat the filling and throw the crust away…a lot of folks do that. I think the window sill thing came when kitchens were tiny and hot. Maybe. Just guessing. We don’t do that in L.A., it’s usually hotter outside.
porkerroy about 12 years ago
Happy Thanksgiving, Stephan. Thanks for all the great strips!
alviebird about 12 years ago
Let’s face it, hot kitchen or not, when you are waiting for a pie to cool you want it fast. It is going to cool quicker on the sill, where the air can circulate better.

The pie-in-the-window idea showed up in “Wreck-It Ralph”. I read this comic this morning before seeing the movie.

I do like the scene from “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” where they steal the pie—and then Delmar runs back and leaves a dollar.
vjkjm about 12 years ago
So, if goat ate the pie, would he gag on it?
alantain over 1 year ago
A gluten-intolerant goat? That’s like an elephant with a peanut allergy!
