Going by Honeymoon’s age, about 7 years have passed since 1978, the year her mom was taken out. If 34 actual years = 7 Tracy years, then Bates kidnapping and torturing Tracy (which occurred in 1932) happened about 16 Tracy years ago.
Our guy is doing some first-rate detective work today. Will he put the fear of the Law into Belle, or will she be moved to further criminal behavior? Broadway is destined to doom, I think.
But is Tracy’s head recovered from the suitcase full of bricks that they dropped on it? Nice recap in a single panel of the things we needed to know about Bare’s first appearance.
I think I’m going to have to reread the original story, I can’t remember any of those details- Now, I have to figure out where I put my copy of “Dick Tracy in the 30s”
There is no doubt, SDM, that in your sixth grade Christmas Play, you volunteered to be The Grinch. I hope they don’t let you get close to the platter of Christmas cookies, either. You’d be sprinkling them with Ex-Lax.
This is how continuity strips used to be—a fairly complex story, a lot of dialog, plus some good art. Strips like this have largely disappeared as newspapers kept shrinking the panels (see Bill Watterson’s discussion in the “Calvin & Hobbes” 10th anniversary collection). I don’t think I’d want to read today’s strip at the size it would be printed in many newspapers. On the internet, with the magnifier clicked, it’s a very nice piece of work.
ok, this clears up how tracy just HAPPENED to show up at broadway’s place… good to see tracy is on the ball. i wonder if he will put together that bates will somehow try to get his foot in the door of the wanna-be heroes running around tracyville? so far the story is entertaining, if not a little “out of left field”. i cant say i love it completely, bu ti’m giving it a chance to grow on me since i was TREMENDOUSLY dissapointed in the way they killed off my favorite villian, measles. (i still think a stint in rehab would have been a much better ending to that story… but i digress! lol) as for idiotic comments posted about me and people taking potshots, i simply click the “FLAG” button and let TPTB handle it. APOI, i dont validate them at all since they do nothing more than make my skin crawl and make my eyes bleed lol.
IT’S DR. SEUSS! Not “Suess.”Seuss! Seuss!! Seuss!!!..(Picky about this because my own last name contains a “ue” that people are always switching around.)
I agree. One thing we know about Bates is that he’s cruel and malicious. (I guess that’s two things.) Whenever he springs into action, I think we’ll be surprised how nasty he becomes.
We need to have TWO “comments” sections…..one for people who actually want to comment on the story, and one for the usual suspects to keep making their disparaging, juvenile comments about each other. Seriously, why don’t you idiots meet in a chat room and duke it out or something, and spare the rest of us from this drivel? Mike and Joe, for starters, really deserve better for their daily efforts…….

Belle’s pretty nasty, too. I read where she took a shot at Tracy that ended up killing another man.

Bates: but that was in 1932 eighty years ago! Don’t tell me you’re still holding a grudge?

I think stories with NEW villains would be less temporally paradoxical, don’t you think?

Contrary to a complaint by another, I’d appreciate a link to the earlier story if anyone has a good one.

Can we expect a Dick Tracy/Batman team-up?

Broadway Bates looks a lot like Stooge Villar from the ’30s.

I found a recap of the Broadway Bates story here if interested, http://dicktracy.info/?page_id=299 . I love all these old villians coming back.
