Or perhaps Shannon’s a little more sophisticated then either ‘parent’ is ready for. She wouldn’t be the only 6 year old with high tech ‘toys’ on her mind.
I don’t know a company that gets as much “free” advertising in the form of product placements and reviews as Apple does. I wonder what the going rate is.
Sad but true story about Apple:Ever heard of Ron Wyman? He was the guy who drew the Apple logo, made the first Apple Training book…but then, he and Steve had to take out a loan to keep Apple going. Ron said ‘nah, I’m out’ and cashed out his share for 2000 dollars. His share to day would be worth 53 BILLION dollars. Somehow, he hasn’t committed suicide yet.
Last I heard, Ron was doing okay, with no regrets – he’d decided life in the new Apple would have made him almost literally crazy As far as I’m concerned, poor but sane is batter than rich but crazy any day. The story, BTW, is a bit different than you told. Read the Jobs biography for more details…
Hey, poor Gunther is in agony in a bowling alley, the brat just went into one of the most expensive stores, and saturday we will be in weenie world!!!!
The look on Toni’s face, particularly in the first panel, seems to suggest an aced ‘dad test’ to me.
I mean, Brad’s holding SHANNON’s hand, (but not Toni’s) and is generally being quite dadlike.
Panel 2 for the reward…now he gets to hold Toni’s hand while they watch the kid run off into a toystore. She’s probably getting considerably more comfortable with him being the father of her children.
I think the point is that in today’s world, technology is what kids want; she may not even know there’s a different kind of toy store next door, that’s so yesteryear…
“It was END of the WORLD as We KNOW it!”“Yes, the END of the WORLD as We KNOW it!”“It’s the END of the WORLD as We KNOW it!”“BUT – I – FEEL – FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!!!!” – R.E.M.
Let’s see. For Christmas, I could get my kid a watch, a camera, a music player, a diary, a personal organizer, a video game, an alarm clock, DVD movie/player, and a musical instrument … HOW ?ONE iPhone … Toy Store, indeed !
“And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….And I want….”
also, the apple store employees do stuff. some do drugs and go to work high. they copy your pics if you are a hot girl(even underage) and post them online. they toss around merchandise like footballs. they call it field testing. when they break ipads, and itoys, they send the broken items to apple to get brand new itoys. they trade ipads for other services(plastic surgery). and, on some items, they do not use genuine apple parts when fixing your itoy.
All Apple stores in malls don’t have doors on the side so that it would be right next to the door of the store next door. All doors are in the middle of wide panes of glass on either side. Apple is very strategic and deliberate of the layout, and entrance, to their stores.
Which can Santa better afford— a million cookies or an iPad?*Good thing there is a Santa (who is employed, with two paychecks) because Shannon’s own dad certainly won’t come through.
the apple store? Why would a little girl go in there? Nothing but a couple tablets and phones that everyone knows in the back of their mind will be obsolete in 6 months…actually it’s the perfect place for a little girl.
Don’t know for sure about life in the Pitts, but where I am, the local Apple store is crowded even at “normal” times of the year. Now, it will be like a sardine tin. Shannon will have a hard time picking out an expensive toy (all Apple toys are expensive, but I still prefer them!), but that’s a blessing in disguise for Brad and Toni. They’ll save some bucks if they can redirect Shannon into the toystore next door!
Although I hate to make predictions, there seems to be a premonition that Shannon’s destiny is to be adopted by Brad & Toni, who will somehow get Jonah Daytona legally declared to be an unfit father. Who knows? What I really want to see (of course) is the hypothetical storyline about Bernice meeting the old self-styled occult philosopher who runs the private library in the lodge of a secret society…
The gap between her age and speech is troubling, (although she might not actually be six), but I’m more concerned with something that has come up twice now. When Luann last babysat, Shannon was obsessed with eating, now she was more interested in having a steady supply of food than asking Santa for toys. Is Toni’s brother not “bothering” to make sure she has regular meals? (The “menu” was a typical little kid thing, but she shouldn’t be so worried about getting a meal.)
Hard to tell what causes speech variations. Sometimes it’s to get attention – even if the attention results in punishment – because whatever attention you get is better than being ignored. For instance, we’ve had posters who insist on calling Toni quackers and Brad be dorkboy.Sometimes it’s just because the mouth apparatus has problems with certain consonants. And sometimes it’s caused by trauma. I had a brother who saw our barn struck by lightning and burned – he started stuttering and never stopped until he saw a neighboring barn struck by lightning and burned. He was OK afterward.
While Shannon is in the kid’s toy store, Brad & Toni can do some shopping at the “adult toy store!”.If Toni was to buy an adult toy, it would be a divider that goes down the center of the bed, making it impossible for a person on one side of the bed to pay a visit to the other. I saw one of those in the movie “Beowulf”^^Why are you having such a problem with the Brad-Toni coupling? I think they are cute together; especially now, with the rugrat
I think she made a wrong turn and really meant to hit the Microsoft store next door. Maybe check out a Surface tablet, or an Xbox or something.
Anyway, I do agree it’s odd he deliberately put the Apple logo. I wonder if it’s a paid product placement or what, because usually I don’t think I’ve ever really seen a real-world product that obvious. I find the Apple logo in pretty bad taste as if we don’t see that everywhere in advertising.
