A kid was just arrested in Utah for bringing a gun to school to protect against shooters. Fortunately, they took it out of school. Because it turns out, more guns do not make a place safer. They make it more dangerous. Remember the Wall Street shooting? Imagine if instead of trained police popping off and wounding innocent bystanders, it had been your average gun nuts. Or imagine if the Aurora Theater had been packed with people packing heat, each shooting at everyone else who drew a gun. The solution is taking away the weapons of mass destruction, not in killing more people.

Heck I like the Idea. Its like archie bunker said when people get on a plane give them a gun. And see how many people stand up and say this is a hi jacking

to dumb to really make a comment on except how stupid this is and how weak of an anti gun argument the loony left has.In other words, you have no counter argument.

You know, Clinton’s assault weapon ban expired in 2004, and Obama’s election caused a rush on gun buying, particularly assault weapons and high capacity ammo magazines. I think the empirical evidence shows that more guns is not the answer. On the other hand, countries with more retrictive gun laws have fewer crimes in general, since guns make committing crimes easier.

There are 250,000,000 privately owned guns in the USA. They aren’t going to go away. Instead of dumping mentally ill people on the street for lack of profit in treating them, we should concentrate on helping those who need it, and punish those who commit any crime whatsoever with a weapon.

If you want to see how well a society functions when everybody has full access to all weapons, look no further than Iraq.

This posturing by Congress continues because it’s easier than funding a program to treat the mentally ill. Might mean fewer bombs or ships. And after all, the mentally ill don’t make “campaign contributions” or hire K Street lobbyists, so as long as issues about guns (in the world’s biggest arms seller country) can distract the populace, why not.

No, you’re just an idiot. In other words, you agree with Harley and, like him, have no counter argument.

@theophilousyou are a piece of work, arent’ you. it wassn’t wall street, it was 34th street in front of macy’s flagship store, and the police shot and killed the better part of 9 innocent bystanders, the “shooter” didn’t shoot anyone on the street. I’m not condemning the police, they HAD to do what they did, it’s a damned shame how it turned out, and that the officers have to live with it. you also seem quite bright and you know that whether ‘high powered rifles" or “simply semi-auto carbines” is a poor veiled attempt to minimize the damage weapons we call assault rifles can do, do do, and are INTENDED to do. It is specious to try to distract the discussion with such BS. your charactarizations of native americans as “savages” is just inflamatory, ignorant, and over the top. If you were on the receiving end that they were, and knew the history, you’d know it’s not too difficult to determine who the ‘savages’ were.

I’ve been asserting that banning automatic weapons will reduce the death counts in mass shootings. I saw a link from another poster showing that there are fewer deaths when a shooter is stopped by civilians than when police stop the shooting. This is true, but most of the shooters were stopped by unarmed civilians! I used the data provided & analyzed it to see what the average death toll is by weapon type is. Weapon / Average Deaths Per IncidentAutomatic Rifle / 9.5Automatic Pistol / 9.8Rifle or Shotgun / 3Revolver/Non Auto Handgun / 1.8Anecdotally, there were several cases where armed civilians either failed to subdue the shooter or shot bystanders. In most of the cases where civilians armed or unarmed were successful in subduing the shooter, the shooter was not armed with an automatic weapon, or the gun jammed. I think it’s obvious that the lack of automatic weapons gives a greater opportunity for civilians to intervene or flee.

“Amereica faced attacks by armed savages bent on the killing of innocent people in our past.”Is this satire? I mean, really… your post reads like the work of a drunken Stephen Colbert ‘wannabe’.

“On the same day as the Sandy Hook massacre, an evil man attacked 22 children with a knife.”And killed none. If you thought before you typed you’d realize bringing up the incident in China makes your argument weaker.
Dtroutma over 11 years ago
Yes, theo, China had a nasty knife attack, and none of the victims died, guns indeed DO make a big difference!
Shared an office with a guy who joined up with the “Minutemen” to patrol the border. He listens to Limbaugh every day, and it’s impossible to have a sane conversation with him for several hours after most day’s broadcasts. I wouldn’t trust him with a ball bat when he’s “Rush wired”, let alone a firearm, even a BB gun. He’s just plain nuts after listening to Limbaugh, as are most “dittoheads”.

Here’s some admiration of your rant. (crickets).BTW, no one was there to defend the defenseless. Read and find all the recent stories of people carrying concealed weapons that are stopping tragedies like the one in CT.
dannysixpack over 11 years ago
^oh please. yes a knife can be a leathal weapon. it can’t kill a roomful of people, with multiple wounds, in less than a minute. no equivalence, and YOU KNOW IT.dan

That stupid, phony, ignorant, and BS claim by the NRA that weapons prevent crime 2.5 million times per year in “self defense” is so absurd as to defy any relevance. Oh, right, a guy planning to rob a bank in Newark N.J. calls it off, because an 80 year old woman in Las Vegas has a Chief Special in her purse, THAT’s the crime “prevented” and “self defense”.. If that claim was true, 2.5 million “bad guys” would be shot every year in the US.. Even the cops don’t use weapons that often! In fact, the VAST MAJORITY of police officers NEVER SHOOT THEIR WEAPON AT A “BAD GUY”, and most never even draw a weapon other than in following felony arrest protocols.
The bloated role of firearms in “defense” by the NRA, as touted in their “Armed Citizen” reports, is not only BS, but most of the incidents they cite, reflect the idiocy of the gun owner, that often would have resulted in police officers, either being arrested, or fired, for doing the same thing. Discharge of a firearm, without hitting any “bad guy” is very common in these reports. But, yep, Zimmerman is a real “poster boy” for crime prevention.

I saw a story about an ex-marine standing guard at an elementary school in Nashville, his children’s school.

Wasn’t G. Zimmerman a volunteer guard when he gunned down Travon?
