I eat parsley. So did Julia Child, who had a recipe for a three-layer “cake”, one of which was parsley. Don’t know if one of the others was cliantro, which I also eat.
Actually, I sometimes do. Not only is it a bit of prettiness but a breath freshener as well. I do that only at the places where I know they wash every bit of edibles that go on the plate. So far, I am up to four restaurants near my house.
This recalled to me “Terror from the Year 5000.” In that movie, scientists were stymied as how to eliminate the Terror. And then they realized, as they phrased it, “No living thing can survive in its own wastes.” I didn’t know they meant CO2, and wondered what “its own wastes” meant. It couldn’t be …? (Give me a break, I was in third grade.).It turned out they subdued the creature (a vicious woman in skin-tights) by denying it fresh air. Suffocation by CO2 might be something that everyone could agree on, but maybe not even that. Look at increasing levels of it we are pumping into the atmosphere. .Kind of a stretch for a comment, I know.
Does anybody else remember that “Don’t Drown Your Food” cartoon song aimed at kids? It was kind of like “Conjunction Junction” except the point was to tell kids not to slather their food with garnishes and sour cream, etc. Man, times must have been better then if the biggest problem kids faced was too much ketchup on their fries . . .
Benny is beginning to realize that ,there is no subject in the world, that everyone will agree on ! Why just look at the pro/con comments on cilantro and parsley. For the record, I like both.
Vonne’s supremo salad:Arugula lettuce, mixed with cilantro, diced red bell pepper, sliced cucumber, sliced baby bella mushrooms, diced tomatoes, topped with diced green onions.(Notice the artsy layering of colors.)Each serving can have the dressing of choice.Voila’! Never heard a complaint yet.Mmmmm….
Parsley good. Freshens the breath. Aids in digestion….. but like spinach…. sticks to your teeth, darn! .Cilantro bad….. I don’t have that gene… its just tastes too strong.
i always add parsley to the pot when cooking chicken soup – it’s an “official” not just personal ingredient – those pre-packed ingredient trays include it along with carrot, parsnip, onion, turnip etc.re: breath freshener – an old bio book of mine included this – “yonder goat upon yon hill has browsed all day on chlorophyll”
Hey, I haven’t the thyme for this kind of nonsense.OK, that was more of a spice joke than a garnish joke, but it’s Monday and I’m not up to speed as of yet.
Parsley is an edible garnish which is supposed to be a breath freshener…cilantro …I have never “tasted” though it was an ingredient in some of the best 5 alarm chili I have ever had. It was so hot my eyes and nose ran but the flavor of the chili was so good I had seconds.
The profane herb! My father and I both agree that cilantro is horrible. But I’ve also heard it’s one of those things you either love or hate. We’re fully on the latter. And my father grew up eating authentic Mexican food (not the Tex-Mex that most places serve), made by his authentic Mexican grandparents, that never once had cilantro in it. Tell me it’s not a nouveau-Mexican cuisine ingredient when it was historically too expensive for poor mestizos like my family to afford.

Richard, yes! The answer is no! No? Yes! Or it could be yes, no? Know what I mean? Goodnight Gracie….

I do. Plucked right from the garden. A lot of herbs taste great that way. Sage is another.

Do a google search for cilantro. There really is a web site for cilantro haters! They want to ban it? http://ihatecilantro.com/
