I think that Luann cares more about the Gunth man than she is letting on. Quill will eventually end up with a girl from his land, and they will be down under. Luann will make a play for Gunth, and will take him from Rosa with little effort.^^I hope you’re right… Quill is just a replacement for Stuart, who was married; the next guy Lu meets just happens to be a Stuart clone… !!!

It is possible for a human to love another human more than himself/herself.^^Yup

Well, Rosa is essentially Toni Jr. Since Toni Jr>Luann, it won’t be until Gunther realizes Rosa’s commitment shy that he’ll find a problem.

Luann only went out with Ben once and Bernice tagged along on made a scene every now and then.

It’s worth remembering that dad and brad joined forces to give her the amazing Quill valentine’s day.

For all that, it’s possible Puddles loves her most. Dogs always have an edge in loving people. Darn canine cheaters.

AJ has not been a “date”, but if she puts Dad and Brother, she should mention him too, along with Ben and Elwood

I think you’re underestimating Gunther. Who would willingly go back to someone who made it clear multiple times that they only liked him as a friend? And if he and Rosa break up, there will be another non-Lulu there to comfort him. It’s not like there is a shortage of human beings on this planet.

Besides, Quill and Luann are putting a lot of effort into this relationship. They like each other. It may not be permanent, but most high school relationships aren’t.

Gunther is clearly in the Friend Zone, from which very few ever escape. He can have all the feelings he wants for Luann, but her interest level will always be in the toilet. He’s smart to focus on Rosa. I do hope they manage to end up at the same college—though it did look like Rosa’s cooling fast, from the strip where she lowered the boom on him about her folks wanting her to go to an Ivy League college. At any rate, it shows that if some gal gives Gunther attention, he is capable of warming up and showing that he wants her too. If he doesn’t stick with Rosa, he’d better take a course in how not to lose a girl when she’s throwing herself at him! Geez, that was painful. But when he’s rich and famous, there’ll be no end of hot women throwing themselves, so he’s probably set.

“Quill” means feather, how appropriate, as he has little substance other than being a “pretty boy”, Luann would be better off falling for a mushroom.

Elwood should count as a “man in her life” even is she had no crush on him. Dad and Brad are listed, even Puddles..After all, Elwood proposed, gave her a diamond ring, offered to fly her to Paris (I think), took her out several times, gave her a job once. He featured longer than Stuart by far.

I found another mistake in what I wrote. I’ll do it all over again..Stuart was Luann’s boss at the pool where she worked during one of her 27 summer vacations.

Elwood should count as a “man in her life” even if she had no “crush” on him. Dad and Brad are listed, even Puddles. She never had any crush on Gunther either..She invited Elwood to the big dance, he dumped her.Later though, Elwood went ‘Luann crazy,’ proposed marriage, gave her a diamond ring, offered to fly her to Paris (I think that was where). He took her out several times, gave her a job once. .He featured longer than Stuart by far. He was also shown as very jealous of Quill..For some reason, Elwood now seems more focused on Tiff, but that is still part of Luann’s world.

Quill was a writing instrument not too many decades ago. He sounds intelligent and studious to me – bears that out in his dialogue and interests. Notice that he as well as Luann thought it unwise to develop a relationship as he would have to leave someday. Looks as if they both decided, too late, that they should have taken the chance anyway. So now they’re struggling to make the relationship work long distance. Evans can get a lot of mileage out of that story line and daughter, Karen, can move that to warp speed if she desires.

Porcupine quills and the shafts of feathers are very similar, both are hollow structures created by keratin, the same chemical that makes our finger nails; both are quills.

MJ:Do you think today’s strip stems from Real Luann responding to the Luannalyzers. And if so, do you think she reports back on what she reads and thinks about us to Evans before telling him how to write Luann?^^Usually, cartoonists and their assistants talk over all the stories and everyone gives opinions on what they should do with the script

I think Aaron ran his course as the forever crush, once he and Lu actually went out, he lost his reason for being (in the strip).

I’m new to these parts, but have been enjoying all y’all’s pithy and entertaining comments for quite sometime. Well, most of ‘em. One of you mentioned a Valentine’s Day strip dated 2/14/97 that I would like to see, but was unable to access it through comix archives. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I think most everyone gives Elwood short shrift as a suitable mate for Luann.

Guess Elwood is unworthy. Poor guy.
