Not sure, maybe the authors will comment.

I’m hoping to learn more about the Japanese internment camps here.

    @Flight Suit

Would your friend who identifies herself as a Fundamentalist Christian be willing to post a comment here explaining her views and how she interprets the relevent scriptures? If so, I would read her comment and try to understand what she is saying.-——————————————————

Given the huge, heated debate that fhoffman and I have spent the last day having about you and your words, I think there is sublime, graceful irony in the fact that you’ve come back and posted such a meek, open request for dialogue.

My best friend is constantly yelling at me to stop getting in fights on the Internet, though, and I would say there’s no way in heck she’s going to allow me to drag her into this debate.

Just as rhoffman bears me no ill will (see his most recent comment underneath yesterday’s DT), I will go forward assuming you and rhoffman are both nice people, and I will try not to further divert this comments section away from the things we can all agree upon, like Staton and Curtis’s writing and drawing talent!

Oops, I changed fhoffman to rhoffman there. And I’m not sure why I’m assuming fhoffman is a man.

Perhaps I’m speaking from a place of male privilege.

    :-)

Heart Mountain Relocation CenterThe Heart Mountain Relocation Center is the Internment Camp that the characters from the musical Allegiance, that George Takei is starring in, are from.

@Mikeyj – it’s a reference to the real life musical George is involved in called ALLEGIANCE, which is about a Japanese American’s family internment at "Heart Mountain " in Wyoming http://www.theohmybook.com/show

…and why in the world would you think it was a “Brokeback Mountain” refrence? Just becuase the two “guests” in this storyline happen to be a gay couple?

My apologies if this sounds like a broken record but gotta say it one more time… Team Tracy does a TERRIFIC job of interaction with the major and cameo players. They make the “guest stars” as important as the regulars when they’re part of the story. Because of this, I EXPECT some great things coming. Good luck Team Tracy, you have already set the bar pretty high.

I guess Lee follows show biz news, since she’s so aware of Tawara’s play. But what will George have to offer about the camp that will be of help to Tracy’s investigation? Or, will Mr. Mole come over to say hello, overhear the conversation, and have something of his own memories of his earlier life on the Dark Side that will be relevant?

sorry for the rapidfire posts, but i tried to edit my previous comment before posting it and gocomics for some reason wouldnt let me continue typing. anyway… two quick questions/comments for y’all… is there anyone here who has actually BEEN to this place that theyre having dinner? does it look anything liek this on the inside… it would be interesting to know if joe actually went inside the place to get a ‘feel for it’ before he drew it, and second.. i am asking this to all the longtime readers of tracy… has any indepth background been delved into concerning tracy’s co-workers in their personal lives? like, i know lizz had a sister and all that, and sam’s wife and daughters etc.. but what about the other characrters like lee and johnny etc? someone here had commented that lee must keep up on her show biz news to know about the play george and brad are in.. but has any insight into her private life been given? i think it would be kinda neat to give like maybe a week’s worth of strip time to the personal lives of the OTHER supporting characters in tracy-ville… whaddya all think?

The same people complaining about a gay couple, would, 50 years ago, have complained that a black woman is sitting at a dining table with white men.

let’s face the sad fact that no matter how far we progress, the bigots have always been here to hold others down, and always will be.

That’s not really a good analogy. It’s like challenging someone who’s never been allowed inside a bowling alley to a match, but then spotting them 30 pins in the spirit of fair play. To help me understand your point, what “special treatment” are you talking about? Seems to me they are just asking for the rights they are entitled to.

even tho i am LOATHE to reply to you at any given point in time sdm, let me go on the record and say this. in MY mind there should be no “gay rights” or “black rights” or “womens rights” or any “minority rights” at all… there should be no “gay marriage” or “lbgt equality” etc.. everything should be considered under the banner of HUMAN RIGHTS, because at the end of the day, regardless of who we sleep with or who we love ro the color of our skin etc.. we are ALL humans and should have the same rights. thats MY opinion (which i am entitled to, and entitled to voice in a public forum) just like any of you are free to disagree if you so choose.. but think about it before you start slamming my comments… if we, as a nation and as a people, treated eachother with the respect and dignity that we are ALL entitled to.. wouldnt this whole thing be pretty much a moot point to begin with? i’m just sayin…..

So… Dick Tracy, Lee Ebony, George, Brad, The Mole, Toad Toad’s mother and Sweatbox’s henchman (although with the wrong color hair and shirt) are all in the same place at the same time. This should get interesting in a hurry!

Interesting. The Comments box clearly says “Comment on this Strip”. It does not say comment on the comments or comment about how I feel about (insert here) politics, sexuality, religion, race, et cetera.

Can a person demand equality and acceptance while still receiving special treatment?^^They can, if there’s people out there, willing to beat them (often to death), just for being different

    You’re replying to Night-Gaunt49’s comment:

Doubtful. Just because it has mountain in the title doesn’t mean it has any reference to it.^^yeah, I just thought it was one of those “throw in” references, like all the Batman ones in the last story… anyway, since George Takei is basically “playing himself” here, why did they bother to change his name?

’Excuse me while I whip this out"

I say it calmly and do not shout

In this I truly do believe

    That all others must receive

The same rights and privileges that do I

And if this may cause you to pout and cry

There’s a place that you should go

Where fires will roast you really slow

Treat others just like you would be

And the world will be a better place to see.

Thank you Gweedo Murray, coldsooner and Tarry Plaguer.

Great poems SDM and Otto Baron.

Question….when he says he “did spend time there” I assume it was researching? I mean otherwise we would be really, really reaching time-wise……I do realize Dick Tracy would be over 100, as would some of the returning villians, but interacting long ago events with today kind of…..I don’t know…..

…….and may I add that I’m sure Mike knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he intro’d the gay couple into his strip, and to be honest, the debate here isn’t necessarily a bad thing………doubt anyone’s going to turn prejudiced from it, and it just might possibly enlighten a few……
