Saleswoman: Nothing symbolizes the power of women to elevate the country's hopes for the new year like THE FIVE-INCH STILETTO PARTY SHOE!! Cathy: I beg your pardon? Saleswoman: The shoe says "We will rise above!" "We can reach new heights!" Every sparkly strappy sky-high shoe......Stands for the kind of soaring ambitions and towering abilities our grandmothers never could have dreamed of! And THAT is what the fabulous, fearless female of 2010 brings to the party!! Cathy: Ouch. Saleswoman: We've come so far, considering we look too hot to walk.

I hope that in 2021 we have more sense than that!

And then you can move the party to the hospital when you and your gal pals break your ankles trying to walk in those ridiculous shoes.

I loved platform shoes and was “nicknamed Goody Two Shoes” as everyone was amazed at the antics I could still do wearing those shoes. Run, jump and they were great for me and my buddy went out on Saturday night and danced the night away. My secret was my mom had those old fashioned heels for the 40s and 50s and we were the same size shoe, so she’d let me wear them and was shocked at how easily I walked in them.

Fashion is so fickle.

I have noticed that the people selling those shoes, don’t actually wear them. Embrace the UGG ladies.

Trending this year are feet covered in corn plasters!

I actually found some Mary Janes a couple or so years back … totally comfortable and dressy enough for those rare occasions that I have to wear “dress-up” clothing! It’s called retirement! :-)

Shoes like this are horrifyingly reminiscent of foot binding. Anything harmful to our bodies for fashion needs to stop

Remember the days when shoes were comfortably functional … ?
Also, Happy Belated Birthday, lightenup! I meant to mention it yesterday, but holiday travel scrambled my brain. Hope it was wonderful.

Since they are starting the 2010 strips, I guess it’s countdown time to the end of the strip in October? I wonder how far back gocomics will go when they start over again?

“We can reach new heights” – of ridiculousness and danger to physical well being maybe. Certainly none of those other positive things. I have seen very few women who could wear shoes with such high heels and still look graceful – and they were all dancers.
Last Wednesday a ice fisherman parked his truck on the ice just off the shore. Came back to a hole in the ice and no visible truck. Very expensive recovery! Today I already see two ice huts on the ice and several snowmobiles crossing the bay. Considering the warm weather lately, including a day of rain on Christmas eve, I think wearing those shoes might be safer than driving on the ice. Maybe by the end of the week the ice will be a couple of feet thick and much safer.
Enjoy today. It is the last Sunday of the year after all.

Last year, I was wanting to buy a pair of shoes to go with a certain outfit I had. I found a beautiful pair but, they were 4 inch heels. All I could do was try them on, and then just stand there trying to balance myself. Didn’t get them.

I’ve never worn high heels and sure don’t intend to start now. Its fun to watch young women hobbling down the street in them tho.
