Caulfield: Check out my drawing, Frazz! Frazz: It looks like Friedrich Nietzsche eating a pita. Caulfield: It's a philosopher eating a falafel, sir. Frazz: You're killing me. Caulfield: No, I'm making you stronger.
That is what I love about Mallett. The first two panels would be at home in a Pearls Before Swine (yes I know Pastis and Mallett are friends), but the third panel takes it so much further. I love both strips by the way.
I know many people think it’s a joke, but I was working in a record store in ’78; we were playing a Beatles album and a kid was genuinely surprised to learn that Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings.
it took me way too long to get this one, then again I think I’ve only seen the word falafel in reading and never actually heard that. Don’t quote me on that though, more likely is that i had a brainfart.

Jef’s humor often goes over my head, but I enjoy it just the same.

Actually, once again there is a bit of Detroit in this. Falafel is one of the things you can find everywhere there.

I have never had falafel, even during my tour of Iraq. I asked one native about me and he scoffed at the inquiry.

I’m almost done reading “Thus Spake Zarathustra”. I highly recommend that nobody ever read it again.

I thought this was good, right up to Caulfield’s last comment. Then I put it in my favorites!

This one is pretty good. Nothing wrong with a good pun in the morning.

And Jef, this one elicited a thirteen-second long groan. That’s a new record for ANY strip.

I would have gone for the alliteration:A philosopher feasting on a falafel.

Are falafels made by philofelists?
