Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
John is so childish and immature, doesnât have a clue about himself or relationships or women, or anything. mayble Elly liked his childishness/stupidity enough to marry him in spite of his idiocy. but iâd get tired and hurt enough to tell the stupid sob to grow up. after i slapped him silly for being so insensitive. but still, youâd want a better role model for your children.
i guess itâs true that most men hardly ever grow up in to rational, thinking creatures, much less adult hood.
Thatâs because she wouldnât put up with your baloney as much as your wife would! I know this is a comic, but this is ridiculous how disrespectful he is being to his wife.
Yeah, Jon would be a lot better off suppressing his thoughts and feelings. Keep them under wraps where they can fester and grow, maybe lead to a REAL affair outside of his marriage. You and Elly would all appreciate that.
The trouble starts when a man marries a woman, thinking sheâs going to stay the same for him, and she doesnât, At the same time, she marries him, thinking heâs going to change for her, and he doesnât.
John feels intimidated about asking a âperfectâ woman out knowing good and well sheâd never want anything to do with him. Maybe sheâs looking for a perfect man. Extremely handsome men have the same idea that women exist to please him and the more the better!
My DH said this stuff to me about a co-worker once. He was drunk at the time, so he thinks he had a good excuse for letting it slip out loud instead of just thinking it every day. Loose lips get you and unhappy wife, John!
My X did not even realize he was being disrespectful to me if he flirted with a waitress, or the belly dancer. My manâs sister tried to really bug me by hiring a âdancerâ for his 50th Birthday (that she held on his pool deck with all the family, even though I wanted to do that birthday for him). We were being platonic at the time, but he still showed no particular intrest in the stripper, and Iâm sure he was not interested in someone that much younger (we have talked about things like that). I had a dinner party for him the next day with the cake I had made and some good friends- much nicer. That sister is no longer a part of his life (no contact except the annual Christmas card, as it was with my brother and me). Her pesky daughter is still trying to come between us, (She even called him late on NYE when I was there in his bed to tell him that his X was all alone and lonely and he should call her- he listened politely and hung up). He has no contact with his X.
I first saw this addressed in Dilbert as Attractive Woman Disorder (or was it syndrome?), where guys are so overwhelmed by hotness they canât even introduce themselves properly. I certainly had it, as any of my (very few) dates with âtotal babesâ ended up complete disasters.
I agree that John is not very tactful. However, I have seen that with women too. An example from first wife when she came down to breakfast one morning:Wife: âI had a horrible nightmare. You and Orlando Bloom were in a deathmatch fighting over me.âMe{chuckling}: What is so bad about that?Wife: You won!!
My hubby enjoyed looking at pretty brunettes (I was a pretty brunette when I was young) and Iâd point them out to him. Heâs deceased now and I miss him terribly.
âNifty insightâ was my take on it, too. Iâm surprised to see how many negative remarks it generated here, right from the first response suggesting counseling on.
I interpreted it to mean Elly was just right for him.
No husband would say those things in front of his wife. I donât believe it. And, yes I have been married, for 29 years. Well, John might have noticed her teeth!
bawana? Itâs fine to think those things, but a nice person doesnât say them aloud! Who you are and what you are, as you put it, should take your wifeâs feelings into account. You sound like you want a free rein to do what you want.
@ Nabuquduriuzhur ~ FYI, the same goes for the opposite sex. I have yet to meet a guy with âleading manâ looks who didnât think he was âGodâs giftâ to women and who didnât date only the most beautiful women (and then complain to me how they just couldnât find somebody ârealâ to have a relationship with). The corresponding phrase describing that kind of man was âHeâs a dog,â which is just insulting to the 4-legged variety.

These comments could make Elly feel imperfect and unwanted. John is acting so uncaring about her feelings. They should both see a marriage counsellor.

Clearly, John is familiar with the term, âToo much car for you, man.â Ha!

Is it me, or does their marriage seemâŠtroubled since the reboot?
Most of the time their minor conflicts donât seem funny â they seem like symptoms of big problems.

Does the saying, âno matter how pretty and hot she is, somewhere, someone is tired of her chitâ ring a bell?

John if youâre insecure to that degree, how did you ever get married; or ever get a date to begin with?!?!?

Also, how many of us are reading these strips in the harsh light of what we now know happened later in real life?
