It still doesn’t make sense to me why they would decide to do away with the iron. There aren’t a lot of that type of roadster around anymore either, or cannons.

If I ever play Monopoly again, I think I’ll use junk from around the house instead of the supplied tokens.

I agree with you, Iron. I voted for the ousting of the thimble, but you were declared the loser….

But now the game won’t supply any iron.

They’ll have to change the nutrition labels.

    What?

Growing up, we played my Dad’s first edition Monopoly game. I hate to think what it’d be worth today if it hadn’t been played to death over the decades! Half the original tokens were missing, so I never knew there was supposed to be an iron. Or racecar. The rules sheet was crumbling, so we made up our own rules. I still don’t know what you’re supposed to do on Free Parking, but I like what we used it for!

or, make your own tokens. we did as a kids, because at least one of those tokens and many of the houses and hotels were missing.

I couldn’t agree with you more. A truly awesome weapons platform. I see pictures of current navy warships and say to myself, very nice, but where are the guns? I wonder how many of those 16" shells you could fire for the cost of one of the missiles the current ships carry. As Nab pointed out, they could also carry modern munitions. I’m sure there was a psychological effect for ground troops hearing the sound of those massive multi-ton shells screaming in on their positions that survivors never forgot.

Point? You read the comics for points? Better you should head over to the editorials for “points” cause there ain’t none here!

Does Parker Brothers assume we’ll all run out and buy another copy of the game because they put a new token in?I still have my copy of the “original” and one of the Millenium edition (bought at a garage sale) where they had all new tokens. That didn’t do too well, I think.

The bank (to the innocent) represents all of the “powers that be” behind the scene. Actually being a landlord is just another disagreeable chore (if one is honest and tries to provide a good product, expecting tenants to appreciate it). Good people do not benefit from others in any way (slaves to masters is another illustration) that I dare not mention.

I have read somewhere that the original Monopoly game didn’t come with tokens. You were supposed to use whatever you could find around the house.

Maybe the new game should have 2 sets of tokens: the originals for those that like things as they were, and updated ones for those that like it more modern.

For those that don’t know, and there seems to be a lot of you, the Iron was picked because voting was open to the public and that’s what they picked to drop. And they picked the cat as the most popular, for some freakish reason. Additionally, all the old pieces, as well as all the new pieces that were voted on (there were several) will be available in the deluxe version of Monopoly. This is actually really old news at this point. The voting went on last year, I seem to recall.

When they did the “Save Your Token” campaign, several major companies campaigned to help save or add tokens such as the thimble and cat. The iron did not get this support. http://www.npr.org/2013/02/06/171310935/monopoly-fans-dump-iron-token-for-new-cat-piece

Through the craft of precious metal clay, we can now design and create our own tokens. If you like Sculpey and Fimo, you’ll love precious metal clay. (Not trying to sell you anything) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_clay
