When I was 10 years old I found some white ants. I brought them in to our living room while my father was reading the paper and and said, “Daddy, I know there are black ant and red ants, but look, I found white ants.”
My father spluttered, “Those are termites! Get those #$%% out of the house!”
in some countries, bugs are a delicacy… good source of protein ;) and @BenderSastre, yes PETA does care apparently.. remember how they went ape (no pun intended) over OBAMA in an interview when he swatted that fly? :)
Lovely language, John, especially in front of the children. @Paul – Most insects don’t bother me, and my girls and I regularly rescue earthworms after a rainstorm. My 7 year old girl also likes to play with the live meal worms that I buy for the birds. I actually thought it was a “macho” reaction with the cussing, yelling and killing.
Poor little fuzzy caterpillar. No thanks to a completely uncalled-for over-reaction on John’s part, it will never have an opportunity to change into a beautiful butterfly to color their world with. )-:
Â
Meanwhile, John shouldn’t be cursing in front of his children like that. One day they’re going to repeat those exact same words and get a spanking when all THEY were doing was just parroting things they’ve heard their father say!
John recklessly killing a poor fuzzy caterpillar . . .
Â
Is it any wonder that Michael so meanly squirted poor Farley in the face last summer with a garden hose (if I remember correctly)? Gee . . . I wonder where he might have picked up such cruel behavior?!?!? :-(
As you can probably tell . . . I’m a HUGE lover of dogs and beautiful butterflies!!!!! And the very thought of anyone being cruel to either one of them makes me feel VERY sad!!!!! :-(

Uh, Oh, I hope PETA didn’t see that.

I like nature better when it’s outside.
kfccanada almost 12 years ago
Very, very bad example to set for the kids. John should be ashamed of himself.

There goes a potential butterfly.

Does PETA care about bugs?
bluskies almost 12 years ago
Some parents are just not into entomology. Dad’s reaction does show a pretty strong background in etymology, though…

And John is supposedly a dentist that looks into the mouths of people for a living?
tonygeary almost 12 years ago
Harry, you couldn’t have said it better. I was just going to post it on FB, especially after Gov. Christie killed the poor spider.

That was kind of a “girlie” reaction. I though only my wife reacted like that to creepie-crawlers.

Look at the mess he made. Ellie should make him clean it up.
gaebie almost 12 years ago
I would expect this out of Ellie, but not John.
katina.cooper almost 12 years ago
The kids should have put it in his food and after he ate it, told him “You eat what you kill”.

Very few people appreciate nature crawling ON themselves. ;-)
Ragarm350 almost 12 years ago
Such language in a family comic strip!!! Tsk! Tsk!
madmarge almost 12 years ago
It’s the caterpillars themselves, not the moths, that eat your clothes.
barister almost 12 years ago
I hate bugs. Probably would have squished it running out of the room.
