Is that really a word? permissiveness. Wow. I am rather worn out now. We watched Las Miserable. I cried and cried. My eyes hurt. But it a nice cleansing cry.If you haven’t seen it, get lots of tissues. And back to the most important conversation. The look in Jacob’s eye says it all. SUCKER. Yup. I am really looking forward to this battle. In the mean time, back at the jail.How are our victims doing?Haven’t found out if they get to watch from the cell. Regardless of whatever verbal fencing occurs between these two; who will decide the verdict? The council? Nothing insures that what will be broadcast will be anything like what actually transpires, either.

Jacob looks real cute and confident. Allgood is already angry. I hope this is not a rigged jury. or even whether this is one.

This looks like the Scopes trial. A demagogue vs. a lawyer advocating the acceptance of mutations. Unfortunately the defense lost, but it brought enough attention to the issue for it to be ruled in favor of the defense in a later trial.

I love the way Aaron avoids the simplistic idea of “good guys” and “bad guys.” One of the topsiders turns out to be a decent human being, Jacob was once a dangerous zealot, but now may be the only hope of salvation, Flask, ultimately saved all of them. I’m betting even the panda will have his moment of glory. Well, except for the Keystone Rats, maybe. They don’t seem to have enough brains to be redeemable.

When worlds collide.They say there are two sides to every story , and between these two I think it’s more of a dodecahedron..

Jake knows Octavius…Octavius knows Jake…they know each other. Then again, so far it seems everybody in Endtown knows everybody else…

The only way this will end well is if a giant mutant from the surface attacks Endtown and the only way to stop it is with calcium-rich milk and cuteness.

There’s an awful lot of smoking going on down there, for it being a closed system..

We know of Octavius’ ideological stance from the past few weeks. Longtime readers know of Jacob’s ideological stance. I have a feeling this trial will devolve to be more like a battle of extremists. With the radio and television coverage projected to be huge (for Endtown standards), both of them will have the largest audience they’ve ever had for any of their talks. A golden opportunity for them to get their words and points across.

But will there be a place for compromise? A middle ground? Not every issue is so black-and-white (no offence, Mr. Allgood), there has to be some shades in between. I think the “Voice of Reason” will be coming from elsewhere in the heat of battle, not from these two.

Ok, I’m gonna play Nostradamus: the jury is rigged, yes, but by Jackrabbit. I don’t like that look he gives in the last vignette.

One may doubt Jake’s bravery from the last story with Al and Gustine but no one can doubt his ability to give a speech and move folks. Words when used properly are some of the most powerful weapons. That is the weapon of lawyers and politicians. When used properly you are cut before you know it.NOW LET THE CIRCUS BEGIN!!!!!!!Send in the clowns.

2 extremists, one who persists in the delusion that he can simply pretend he isn’t an animal morph and the other who believes that what humanity he possesses should be discarded so he can embrace his new form. Because of context the latter is the protagonist right now but neither is fully right.

Jake’s “toxic permissiveness” is a lot less harmful than Allgood’s toxic restrictions.

The High Council is the jury, and based on what we have seen, it is stacked with Allgood’s people. Of course, Jacob may be playing the same game, so he may have a few plants of his own – posing as part of Allgood’s group, but we don’t know about it yet.

I’m beginning to wonder, too, about who really has stacked the deck in this game. Could Jake and the Weasel have their own scam to set up Allgood? Certainly the Council’s all too convienantly candid statements have gotten Jake into play and the citizenry all riled up. Could the Weasel be playing both Jake and Allgood for her own ends? Arron is a sneaky one.

I maybe wrong, but… I got this strange feeling that Allgood and Jake are in cahoots wuth each other in this whole mess.

Darwinskeeper,you are so right about that but I had heard there was an answer for that. The shielding surrounded the ship is giving it an “invisible” aerodynamic shape. In early SciFi this was discussed when you think about ripping through space with all those small rocks flying about also. The shielding would protect from impacts like a bow on a ship in the Ice pack. A micro rock travelling at 26,000 miles an hour might as well be a armor piercing shell. Now Lucas did not discuss that directly but I had read other SciFi buffs and authors explain it. This is the reason why space is so dangerous. All that small matter flying about is a real hazard. I think one time the Space Station may have suffered a micro hit but I may be thinking of something else. I know I have seen photos of items left in space and they are beaten badly from small stuff.Now the cargo is discussible as he only hauled illegal stuff like Liquor and Cigarettes. Small illegal chips for impotency implants. Wookie sweat.(Valuable aphrodisiac). Metal balls (StormTroopers bravery) Skin care products (Emperors usage only) You know the small stuff everyone wants. ;-))

I remembered this after I typed the above. It was in Star Trek I had heard about the use of shielding. They use the shielding as a bow to move items of collision out of the way like a ship.

I’d be leery of getting one’s ideas of “shielding” from just one source—-you move on from “Star Trek” to “Star Wars,” and the manner in which the shield works (and doesn’t work) is completely different.#Also the shield in “Star Trek” is something of a plot device, intended as a check on that other plot device, the transporter, so the crew would have to stick around in whatever trouble they were in rather than just saying “Scotty beam me up” and leaving it. (Note some of the elaborate ways around the shields in “Next Generation” and later stuff, where the continuity started to weigh things down…)
