Delta: "Whoa. A speeding ticket..."
Bernice: "This day stinks!! I got a ticket, I'm a mess and I'm late for my counseling interview!!"
Delta: "Bernice? Do you need some counseling?"
Bernice: "SHUT UP!"
I’m impressed. This is the first time in a long time that I can remember where Delta is genuinely concerned and showing real honest-to-goodness compassion towards one of her friends.
This is like one of those points in a movie where the tension reaches out into the audience…. and makes the audience want to lean forward and shout: “Delta! SSSHUSSSH!”
Who’s the cop gonna be? Bernice’s brother? Dirk? A future boyfriend? A guy who’s relative is the counseling interviewer? Ms Eiffel has a new boyfriend who’s a cop and he’s a bad cop? Don’t know – but the Luann universe really isn’t that big, is it?
Delta puts it all off on her with the counseling line. She knows how to be officially compassionate like every fine young statist, but has no clue how to be a friend.
I had a problem with the strip loading this morning, myself. The site wouldn’t work @ 1se, and the strip wouldn’t show, though I was able to use the magnifying feature to view it…
Nahhh, the worst part is gonna be when they get home and Bernice has to listen to Luann complaining, “You guys went on a road trip, and didn’t invite ME?”
I guess Karma comes in small ways, they should not have been talking about Luann that way. Luann is a good friend..a little corky but that makes a friendship fun.
For everybody saying “how does it feel now, Bernice?” And “Not so perfect, are we?” Just remember: 100% of us are HUMAN. We’re imperfect, and sometimes, we see some with a cooler, calmer exterior, some not so much.. but we all have strengths and weakness or circumstances where they shine, or show up our weaknesses… that’s life… it’s what you do with your challenges that shows your character…-—That being said, in these two weeks, it’s Bern’s turn (ohhkaaaay, that rhymed….) and we’re seeing what it’s like, and how she reacts, that’s all.. Lu’s also entitled to have her day in the sun, and she has, before… (anytime Tiff gets her “come-upance”, Lu gets a boyfriend, etc.)… the Evanses are just helping us to see how everyone deals….
Call the interviewers (if you have a number—probably don’t) and reschedule the interview. They’d appreciate it more than a no-show, or a late showing and being a mess at the interview.
I actually think this is primarily Delta’s fault folks…. as the passenger, she should never have locked the door of the car at the gas station (at least without asking). That was mighty presumptuous of her to do and was the major factor in the time delay. With that in mind, I find her comment to Bernice rather rude and inappropriate for a “joke” or even as a “serious” comment… both would have annoyed the hell out of me if I had been Bernice.
I believe Mitch may have been speaking of an adult beverage, rather than an illegal herb. But since your mind equates Luann with a headache, one would expect you to think of a substance defined as illegal in most cases. Perhaps those of us who actually enjoy Luann can appeal to a doctor for a prescription to immunize this comic from your hate peddling.
And the worst part of the worst day ever? Bernice dearie, It’s almost all your own fault …oh Delta played a part but since you invited her along, that pretty much makes it all your fault doesn’t it ? (interview rule #1: you don’t take or need or want a third person at a job interview)
I know I’m just a grain of rice in a large field here, but I wanted to say that as far as “hate peddling” goes, I too don’t ever consider Lev’s comments to be such…
If you compare today with the beginning on 4/29, you may spot a BUNCH of hilarities in the progress of this arc, such as Delta telling Bernice that she’d “make a great counselor” (compared to what she said to her today), and Bern saying they “could y’know, chat” (compared to her today saying: “shuuuutttt UP!”)… like what Dinah Washington said: “What a Difference a Day Makes”….
My usual preference is for rock, but I love many varieties of music that are not rap or country. I have some tolerance for the higher quality of those two, but I even enjoy the fairly lousy old blues, and junk from the 80s is so fun.
Same here, like on a case by case basis for different genres … my country’s borders stop at anything “Techno/House/today’s MTV related stuff” ( I do also like Kraftwerk , but to me, they’re on their own planet as far as who and what they are, from “Organization” to present style).
Oh, forgot to add some Jazz, some standards and vocalists, but mostly like Passport, Tim Weisberg, Pat Metheny, Bob James things that are jazz, but don’t sound like jazz, especially rock/jazz fusion….
Now that we have strayed completely from the subject of today’s strip :o)
Has anyone heard The Cruxshadows? My daughter turned me on to them – AWESOME!! (I think they are considered dark wave goth). I am also into Classical, Folk, Gilbert & Sullivan, Eisenfunk (German industrial goth), Pentatonix (acapella cover group), Apocalyptica, and many more. In short, I love music!!
Used to like the heaviest of metal, but not now… now it’s more like the lightest of metal, lol! also prefer Stax or Philly over Motown. Love Poco, Firefall, Neil Young, Skynyrd, Creedence… Indy groups are not my thing, but they seem to produce better quality than the stuff they “tell you to like” on pop radio/net these days… dabbled in some industrial, but just not my thing… and I do like almost everything from the 70s including just a little of the dreaded “D” word… and 80s new wave.-Question is, what would have Bern or Delta played on the radio, had it worked?
My guess is Delta is an eclectic sort, and maybe Bern is Indy/80s… ohkay, so for anybody saying it’s off track, now we can say it’s “back on track”…. sort of…
Indeed— the name of that gas station WAS Hexago!*Bern, you’ll be fine if you just pull over to the side, take a deep breath, and call the interviewer to explain that you’ve had car trouble so will be a few minutes late. But please wait— this interview is very important to me! I DO want this internship!
There are moments my wife and I can turn each other around, sometimes, though, we just don’t want to smile yet, but we’re still in the process of calming down…. but as with everybody, the girls can live and learn…. and I guess Bern will be alright, as soon as she’s good and ready…-And maybe it’s one thing to cope with problems by yourself… this time, it’s dealing with how to help someone else… it can be awkward, and even your best, sincerest, most empathetic, sympathetic, even most jovial effort can be met with resistance, sometimes you wonder if you should even try at all… it seems that this is what they’re going through… the heights AND depths (and I guess lows, too) of friendship and coping. Of course, these two thoughts are only my take….
Yeah, this is a moment I am anticipating…. Just when you think it’s useless, you’d see her synapses fire, gears turn. Will her usual logic and determination prevail against her emotion? I hope she can overcome the “wall of drama”…. if you can’t get over it, go around, go under, or go through….
Yeah, Delta could do that, that is true! Also, Bernice could have a car charger, too… and hopefully there are other days available to interview… it could also be remotely possible that there’s a position for different places, which could help if there’s an option ‘b’ for her desired location to intern…
^I agree! and I’d also take it a step further and say that it would be nice if all music was treated like that! Something to listen to, with all the layers and elements present in whatever we like, instead of consuming and forgetting like just some piece of gum…. my feeling is music is a gift from our Creator to treasure, and not waste….-Also on an unrelated note, It could also be that Sara could’ve meant that her music is unpopular to listen to at her job, and that she’d “get in trouble” for trying to play something beautiful that those others don’t understand….I’ve been in the minority before at work in terms of music at one point or another.
