Bernice: "Too bad about drama camp. Hey, will Quill get here in time for prom?" Luann: "No, Bernice. That would be a happy thing. A positive thing" Bernice: "What, you don't have any happy, positive things in your life?" Luann: "Not lately" Bernice: "What about me?" Luann: "Since when are you happy and positive?"

So the “Pity Party” Continues.
Kid, either YOU are gonna have to get Off YOUR Duff and DO SOMETHING about NOT Getting into the Drama “Camp”, or You’re Gonna have to Something RADICAL.
Like TRUSTING Mr. Oz while he’s there with Tiff.
Uh, You DO Trust Him, Right Lu???

Bernice does bring up an interesting idea. What about the prom? Hey! If he shows up in time, then why not let him take Luann to the prom? After all, that is supposed to be the big thing with teenagers, right?
live2read over 11 years ago
Luann called it as she saw it—and as it actually was.

I suspect that the “Drama Camp” is something that Tiffany has somehow created out of thin air. Fake website, etc. It would explain how Tiffany knew that Luann had applied to go to it, how she had Luann’s mobile number when she text’d her, why Luann was rejected, and most telling, it explains Tiffany’s statement that she was sure that she’d “have Quill all to herself”.
greenbird over 11 years ago
Does anybody not think he’ll surprise her by getting there in time for prom? Predictable.
kfccanada over 11 years ago
No, I don’t think Quill is gay; however, he still does live at home and goes to school in Australia on his parents’s dime so probably only has so much time to focus on girls…and Luann. Also, I imagine Tiffany manages to use up that bit of Quill’s extra time by phoning and texting him a lot. She has a much higher level of aggressiveness than does Luann and would think nothing of using every bit of Quill’s social time to best Luann.
Don’t any of you have teenagers of your own living at home? If so, you’d know a lot more about their habits and feelings. Many teenagers are quite fickle, especially boys, who love to go out with lots of girls and be true to no one. It has nothing to do with being gay or not….it has to do more with time and money. It irks me how many commenters are bound determined to bring up the gay card re: Quill and Guenther. In all honesty, what does that matter? Being gay is not a crime anymore and, when you look at the fact that most gay men are gorgeous…and Quill IS gorgeous…I think men are actually jealous of them because they attract a lot of good-looking female friends. Believe it or not, women appreciate men who don’t always try to seduce them or are more than willing to listen to their ideas or troubles.
Tiffany is a very needy type of female who love the chase of a handsome fellow….but, as soon as Tiffany manages to succeed at catching Quill, the thrill will evaporate and she’ll dump him for another’ fish in the sea’.

Drowning your sorrows in sugar-water is not going to help matters, Luann. Why not try doing something about your woes?
Caldonia over 11 years ago
But the prom might reject Luann just like that darn “drama camp” did!
suzibuy over 11 years ago
OK, I give up, who is this “Karen” that people talk about?
tp66 over 11 years ago
Quill could be coming here to officially dump Tiff in person at camp. It does bother me that Luann’s parents allowed the transcontinental relationship with Q to continue, though. Knowing he might re-enter Lu’s life, just to go back to Australia later will just hurt Lu more. She needs to find someone “local”. An interesting, “claw-filled” arc awaits…going to be an interesting few weeks ahead…….

“What about me?” Yeah, you know …… the person who was ready to blame you somehow for my intern interview mishaps.

Honestly, Bernice kinda deserved that. She isn’t known for neing a positive person….she’s realistic. But yes, I think Luann needs just some sympathetic coddling to guide her out of the pity party.

Well, Lu has a point. Bernice is not the first person I’d run to for a jolt of positivity.

Yes, Luann just suffered a severe letdown, but there is no reason to take it out on Bernice. With Bernice getting tired of Luann’s drama-queen act, she just might take offense and leave. Then where will Luann be — just when she needs the emotional support of a friend.

I’ve only recently discovered this strip so I may have missed the explanation…. but wouldn’t Quill’s school year be during his winters which are during Luann’s summers? If so, drama camp falls at a mighty convenient time for them.
I guess such is life in a comic strip.

It’s about time Luann. Bernice is the least supportive best friend someone could wish on someone else.

For prom?*Even this drama camp is puzzling— in the Southern Hemisphere, this is going to take place the middle of the school year. Is drama camp only a week, landing in his mid-year break, in which case it hardly would be worthwhile coming.*If this drama camp is a month, he’s going to miss out on too much school & his parents would never have ok’d it.
ACTIVIST1234 over 11 years ago
And Luann, I know you’ve got “teen immediacy” outlook, but was VAlentine’s Day that long ago? Don’t you remember how happy Quill made you? You are working his boomerang, you know, promising he’ll always return.

Levi— Quill was a senior? But he had classes with Luann and her posse, verdad? Where do you get the idea he is finishing his senior year?

Well, that’s the way these things tend to play out.
In the end, he will probably have to get in her face and tell her endit. Or throw some other guy into her path, maybe.
Weren’t you ever an adolescent? Or were you just too busy to be involved – as I was. Nonetheless, I could see it happening, and when I was in school, social drama was actually discouraged by driving us so hard we didn’t have time for it.
Goes in both directions, too … the girls don’t have any monopoly on that one.
Even adolescents tend to be self centered and short sighted. Most of us grow out of it.

750 questions in the Pro exam? Last time I heard it was only 150 questions. Guess they thought too many Luann Illiterates were getting certified with this esteemed license.*Really, how much of the above comment are we expected to believe? Even us gullible ones?
PMark over 11 years ago
The idea that Tiffany set up a bogus camp just to lure Quill into her trap falls apart in many places.
• 1: One would expect that Quill and his parents would research the camp. You don’t send your son half-way around the world unless you find out as much as possible about the place to which he is going.
• 2: That constitutes wire fraud — a felony. She has accepted application fees and deposits.
• 3: She doesn’t have the skills to pull it off. And anybody who does would be smart enough not be be part of a felony wire fraud scheme.
• 4: And when Quill arrives and finds that there is no camp, what then? Do you suppose for one second he would hang around someone who cheated him and his parents out a great deal of money? What would Quill’s parents reaction be? So what exactly would she have gained except make Quill extremely angry at her, and be guilty of wire fraud? Or are you supposing that Tiffany would compound one felony with another — kidnapping?
A bogus camp simply does not make any sense.

Quick question: Anybody think this Bern/Lu convo is the new arc in disguise, or just a setup to continue “Camp Drama”?

“…Bernice is Luann’s sounding board, despite all that say she is not good for Luann…”^I agree, and I was saying something similar earlier, in addressing this issue in response to someone’s comments…-But it occurred to me that it would also seem possible that they could have a small spat somehow, and Lu and Bern could be dealing with more than one issue at a time..but in the end, I think that maybe this week they will stumble across something that causes Lu to “put two and two together”… As always, time will tell….
