I wonder when Lu started working in the Library again… Tiff was trying to be subtle there… Apparently Tiff does have a brain in there……. somewhere.

Wow! Lu not only filled in the blanks for Tiff, but she showed awesome composure, and didn’t leave any openings for any more “barbs”… That “that was easy” line from Crystal seemed more like a bit of surprise and sarcasm towards Tiff, and Tiff was probably so shallow, that she didn’t notice any of it….

Well, I’m really disappointed in Chrystal! It sounds as if she’s trying to stay in the good graces of Tiffany…but, why turn on Luann? Is she actually jealous of Luann because she has a family that cares about her? We never see Chrystal’s parents or Tiffany’s so makes one wonder if their parents condone their attitudes towards their peers

Okay….which one of you went on u-tube and made a shout out to Greg insulting him about this comic?

Thanks IAmJayBlueEThe video just popped up as if it had just been posted as a response to this strip… Sorry about my blurting out as I did. As outspoken as Luann seems to be, I don’t thinks she’s near as outspoken as today’s teenagers nor does Tiffany dress as outrageously either.

Not Crystal’s shining moment (though we do get a peek at her belly button in both end-panels). But not Tiffany’s worst, either: her exchange with Luann in panel 2 is at least superficially polite and innocuous, though Luann immediately sees it as hostile in intent (and Tiff’s parting remark does seem to confirm that, though it could be read as provoked by Luann). Maybe not Luann’s shining moment, either….

Hmm. And I always thought Crystal was a teeny tiny bit more compassionate than Tiff.

My most valuable education came from public libraries. Luann could well be helping to save lots of people from poverty. And what is Tiffany doing?

Wrong way to handle it, Luann. If you knew that’s what she was doing, you played right into her hands. Not to mention Tiff was actually considered a patron at the time, and you don’t treat library patrons that way! Ever.

one of these days, Tiffany’s looks WILL be gone. and her friends will desert her. meanwhile a good heart like Luann’s will keep her friends forever.

Luann is lucky that Tiffany dropped by to spice up her life a little bit. Otherwise when the day probably would have been as drab and dull as Luann imagines her summer will be. I don’t feel bad for Luann, she gave as good as she got in this exchange, she ought to feel good about that:)

What’s going on here lately? All these characters are being shown as lesser people than we’ve seen them be in the past. Bernice is turning into a bitchy drag who screws up repeatedly on a road trip, Knute loses his previously eternal (and charming) patience with his best friend, Brad is being shown up at all turns by Toni, Crystal accompanies Tiff to torment Luann—huh??

What Luann should have done or said:

First, as someone pointed out, she is working there, so, she should have helped them when she was asked for help! If she really wanted to be so non-subtle, she should have shown them to the books quite neutrally, pretending she didn’t even understand that Tiffany tried to make her envious (like it would be if she really thought that shelving books is super fun, but organizing parties – not at all), which would obviously mean failing for Tiffany. Right now Luann played right into her hands.

If she had wanted to be somewhat subtle herself (not that she seems to ever manage that), she could have nodded in a helpful and agreeing manner (while looking for those books) how awful it is when you have to somehow while away your summer, and your own head is quite empty. Er, I meant of ideas, of course. Or she could have written down some webpages for ideas and suggested she could help them with using the library computer, like she’d help someone who sees computer the first time in her life. Or pointed to magazines of last fashion like Tiffany had never heard of them before. All in a friendly way, of course, such as would have made her boss proud of her. ;)

There are endless possibilities and pretty much every one of them better than what she said. :P

I read once a Disney animators quote about writing characters. He said something like ‘When your character does something wrong, you’ve succeeded when the audience is disappointed in them. You’ve failed when they just don’t care’. A lot of you are disappointed in Crystal today. Personally I don’t see her as a deep person. She’ll sink the barbs into her own best friend Tiffany at times, should we really think she wouldn’t toss a few at Luann sometimes? But some of you see something special and precious in Crystal. I hope you are right. Most every character has a fan or two here regardless of their short comings, and I think that’s great. Intentionally or not, Greg Evans is teaching me that our dear ones are imperfect, and you love them, in spite of that, or you don’t really love them at all.

Hey, THIS librarian says shelving books IS super fun! It’s amazing how many readers are unfamiliar with alphabetical order — they take a book off the shelf, decide they don’t want it, then out it back anywhere, as if they were in a supermarket.

“Wild pool raves?” I guess Evans has no clue what a rave is.

I bet Tiff is going to literally break her leg at drama camp and be off her feet for the summer. And Luann will be her replacement.

Too bad Luann didn’t take the lessons she learned from “Tom Sawyer and the Whitewashed Fence” and use them against Tiffany.

So it’s the girl with the good heart who, even though she has an obligation to help the customers, starts off by making a nasty remark. I guess it’s because of having such a good heart that she’s totally not responsible for the catty tone of the interaction. If so, you would think that Evans would actually show her demonstrating her alleged good heart once in a while.

Wow! This has been a quiet day! Love that! So “peaceful” in the commenting and the like… even certain people seemed more subdued… differing thoughts, without all the craziness, and the like… especially civility! Guess that will change, tomorrow….

I am not surprised by Crystal’s involvement in this. Have we honestly ever seen any evidence that Crystal is a good person? Simply being nicer than Tiffany doesn’t actually require sainthood. We want to think she’s nice because she’s interesting, but the two are not necessarily the same. She’s borderline abusive to Knute. She used her wheelchair bound brother to try to steal Bernice’s boyfriend. She’s been close with Tiffany for as long as we’ve known her. I like Crystal very much, but I am under no illusions about her being a sweetheart.

Well… it WAS peaceful…—Wow! Don’t know what to say! Not from a loss of words, but because you called me an old man! Your assumption is for naught… I’m more of the 40ish type…. unless you think that is old……

Shame on you Crystal You have been written better than that lately.

In 40 years Tiffany will be getting face lifts and tummy tucks. She’ll look haggard, bloated and frazzled from the party circuit. Sadly, she’ll end up alone. She hang out in a bar, drowning her sorrows in a vodka Martini and wishing she’d been nicer to people because nobody wants to deal with her any more. Take heart Luann, you’ll have more to offer other in the end. Just kind of take it down a notch with the spurts of selfishness.

I can’t comprehend a single reason for Crystal to hang out with Tiff. Crystal is a beautiful lady, and she can do better when it comes to choosing friends. Although seems to be bright and not immature but she still comes up with “That was easy” to Tiff’s crap!

Especially when Luann has never done anything to irk Crystal!

Actually, shelving books IS a lot of fun… Much more fun than a party. (And no, I’m not kidding — I volunteered at a library for several months, and had a blast.)
