Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for June 26, 2013

I’m not looking forward to this arc, mostly becaue I root for Tiffany to succeed in… pretty much any endeavor she takes on in the comic. She has done some super questionable (and outright awful) stuff in the past, but she is ambitious, confident, competent and knows what she wants. Luann, however, is the bland yet oddly conniving and bitter milquetoast protagonist who only has things happen TO her rather than try to make things happen herself… yet is the one to be rewarded because she’s, like, virtuous and has inner beauty or something like that. Having read all through the archives, Luann herself is actually a very jealous, petty, snobby and hateful individual – all traits that she seems to resent in Tiffany. And yet she is devoid of any actual likable and/or interesting traits, thus making her hard to care about and all of the characters look better in comparison.

I can’t find myself hating Tiffany. She’s a bad PERSON but as a CHARACTER she’s far more interesting than Luann, even if Greg Evans has pretty much declawed her. (if you read the archives, she’s less Dumb Blonde and more Sharp Tongued Popular Girl. As far as any Greg Evans character can even be considered sharp-tongued, anyway.)

Anyway. I don’t like Quill, or his romance with Luann, and unfortunately I know Greg Evans’ writing style well enough that the plot will simply wind up embarrassing Tiffany (cuz she deserves it, the STRUMPET) and praising Quill and/or Luann for any action they take upon her, regardless of whether it’s actually clever or justified.

I didn’t know George had an Oz accent.

Pretty predictable so far. Wonder when something interesting will happen…. Maybe they’ll get the parts?

Drama Camp: the best place in the world to have it shoved in your face that you really can’t act. Deliciousness at 11.

I have a feeling that either a) Ms.Manezon will knock Tiff off her dillusion tower or b) Tiff will somehow “impress” Ms. Manezon, thus fueling the dillusion. Either way, Tiff will not get far with Quill, which was her ultimate goal.

If someone at drama camp should google Sheraton St. Louis, and read about her getting booted from her Miss Chamber of Commerce position for ripping off firefighters, then what?

The director gal’s head is tilting further back with each frame, sooner or later it’s going to fall off.

Problem of Comic Strip time: taking a name evocative of Paris Hilton made sense for Tiffany eight years ago, but no high schooler today would do that.

Tiffany will be a big hit and do movies that are so bad, they are good, and cult classics one day:) Her acting gets more hilarious as time goes on. Compare her performance with Ann Eiffel in the Weenie World saga with her more subdued ‘con job’ style in the ‘Dirk returns’ story. Emote Tiff! Emote!

What makes you think Toni isn’t a virgin?

Two things:•1: “Stage names” have a long and glorious tradition in the theater, so I have no problem with her using “Sherton St. Louis”.

•2: Is she for real? Beyond the obvious retort, “No, she’s a cartoon character”, this little speech does nothing to ingratiate herself to her fellow camp students, her camp instructors, or to Quill.

This is not Tiffany. Tiffany has proven over and over again to be a master manipulator of other people. Yes, her little speech is funny, but to say something so blatantly offensive just goes against her character.

Perhaps Greg Evans is angling for Tiff to be so marginalized at the camp that she quits in disgust leaving an opening for Luann. But after Luann’s adventure of the locked door, her parents aren’t going to let her within a hundred miles of that place.

Miss Presumptuous is not auditioning for the part of Ms. Congeniality, but that of Drama Queen. So what if everyone else (including me) resents her? I say she’s got a shot at it!

I’d cast Tiff as the cherry tree…

Surely Tiff would have put her acting credit in Eyez of Zeye on her application, so they know all about it.

At the moment, Tiffany is the only person he knows there, and while he does not really like her, he does not really hate her either^^Astute observation, Lev…. I would go as far as to say that Q considers Tiff a friend, one who annoys him some, but, a friend, nonetheless.

I agree with you. TJ himself has expressed many similar qualities to Tiffany, but has not received a narrative backlash the way she has – I wonder if this is influenced by her confident sexuality and her gender? It seems rather biased in TJ’s favor.
