Ah, the one finger salute! Algood wanted an answer, and he got one. Linda’s one cranky koala lady, down to her last nerve, and Octavius wants to use it as a jump rope. This is going to get interesting.

Considering what she did wasn’t illegal, simply taboo, yeah, it is none of Algood’s business.

I knew that Linda wasn’t going to back down! I guess she’s not all that cute and cuddly. JJ is going to have to watch his step and not come off as condescending . She’s still not too happy about being a mutant but slowly accepting it

Well Mr. Neathery, it seems you still a few standards you won’t allow in a comic strip. But that’s all I’ll give you on that. Also, they have to realize that the FCC no longer exists in their apocalyptic world.

Given that she was arrested for things that are not crimes, has been kept in a cell without facilities or lights out for several weeks and told she may be executed, she has a right to use obscene gestures. I hope she follows that up with an explanation of how she has been treated during this trial and a question (as a newcomer) if that is how Endtown treats its own.

I would have loved to have seen her gesture with that face.Empathic to say the least.Best one finger salute I remember is from Buckaroo Banzai when the aliens are launching their ship and Lithgow as the bad alien tells his assistant "Big Booty (Bootea) he is to be ignored. Big Booty launched that salute with emphasis.Oh and thanks for the info on Doc Rat I was wondering if he was having issues. Thanks.

You thought the gesture was bad wait for the clothing malfunction.“And I am tired of this dang waitress outfit. I don’t care if Holly wears it day, night, weekends, on adventures, stuffed in a suitcase, 24/7/365. I want my BUSINESS CASUAL Australian wear. After all I am a KOALA!!!”“Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, OI OI OI.”(Thanks to Jenner, OI OI OI)

Linda reminds me of Miz Beaver from Pogo in “A Report from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: Who Stole the Tarts?” from THE POGO STEPMOTHER GOOSE (1954).

Scsurfer:Allgood is more like the Late Senator Joseph (Joe) McCarthy the founder of McCarthyism.Review those times and you will see the similarities between this “Milk” trial and the McCarthy congressional hearings. This “trial” resembles those times. There is even a photo of Senator McCarthy on Wiki and it sure looks like Allgood.

Been browsing some old strips.02-11-11 comes to light.Topsiders talking about “pelts” as personal trophies. The other goes on about why there “there is money to be made in this.” Pigskin footballs, Alligator luggage.Later you can see Wally’s engineer skills when he rigs a trap on the transporter. That rigging would indicate structural back ground.

Before I was asked to leave law school, I learned of the plea “I demur.” In this case, it means “Yeah, I did what you said. So what?” Usually a defendant would say “I demur,” rather than use a hand gesture.

Darwinskeeper,On that strip too Linda laments her “voice” changing. That would preclude any one in Endtown recognizing another mutated Topsider by voice. It would have to be a key phrase like used in the Batman movie. “Ever dance with the Devil in the Pale moon light”.that would be a catch phrase. An ex Topsider would have to use a phrase he/she used as Topsider around Linda for her to recognize them. The High Council uses voice augmentation just for that reason to make sure no one can recognize the voice. However their pattern of word usage could give them away. Repeating a catch phrase they used as High Council members.

The author self-evidently comes down on the side of “direct democracy.” Democracy is three wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner. The system in Endtown had the wolves wearing masks to boot.

Spoiler for anyone reading this comment later:

It turns out later that mutant anthros have only four fingers but aren’t aware of it unless it is brought to their attention…how do you flip a middle digit if you have an even number of digits?
