We are suffering through a heat wave today (68F). Yesterday was a much more bearable 59. If you want to do a house exchange for the summer, Janis, I’m your woman.

david_42 said; “I don’t like the heat and the sweating, but re-hydration beer is good. Nothing like a pint or two of Cream Ale after yard work!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I didn’t either, but a BIG glass of water goes first for the re-hydration, THEN the Pint of Ol’ Bellywash for the kick-back on the patio time. Gotta remember, ice cream and/or beer converts to sugar and calories in our goozles, equaling sweat, so back in the day, when doing ‘stuff outside’ it was usually Coors lite, (“girls beer”) to keep me motivated, but after that final cord was wrapped, nail driven, or mower put away, it was a big slug of water and THEN a trip to the local A/C’d tavern for a pint or three. If no A/C, then someplace with a breeze and fans… A formula that’s worked for over 62 years, so far.

The document was prepared to send to King Geo III and the rest of the “world” (read Europe) what upset the colonies. It was not needed to enumerate the other unalienable rights as they were listing the important ones that were violated. The other ones may not have been violated or may not have been sufficiently important to mention. It was not intended to set the listed inalienable rights as law in the colonies. (BTW there were those who thought them unalienable rights not inalienable.) Remember the colonies functioned with the Articles of Confederation as the law of the land(s) for a number of years until the Constitution was written and passed.

Our 1770s reenactment group annually reenacts the day the D of I arrived in the local Township (around 7/22 which is how long it took for a copy to get here in 1776) and what happened as it was recorded. The D of I arrives around 1 pm and is read allowed by my husband, the unit commander. It is not the normal dry reading, but as it would have been read with the parts that were emphasized in the original. He also will say things like “Listen to this!” as someone reading it for the first time might say. Members will yell out comments about what is being read, some patriots, some loyalists and some undecided. There was a riot after the reading and we do so now and burn the King in effigy as they did then (I better get to work on it). It brings the D of I to life as opposed to a dry document.
