Sluggo: My uncles LES and 'MORE had SUPERMAN pocket-knives with them in VIETNAM! Their DAD and their UNCLE carried them when THEY fought in KOREA! They got them at a carnival when they were KIDS! Now...one has been passed on to ME! Nancy: So...They kept the little knives to remember to be BRAVE like SUPER-MAN? Sluggo: They said it re-minds us that WE AREN'T SUPERMEN, just MEN. Because COURAGE is being AFRAID sometimes, but DOING the right thing ANYWAY.

killing people in vietnam or korea is doing the right thing? good to learn something more about the christian morality.

@Keith. The same can be said about Iraq and Afghanistan more than Vietnam. Vietnam was a media cesspool. When the men and women returned from Vietnam they were shunned, even by vets from Korea and WWII. That was and still is sad to this day. As you said, they did not have a choice but were ordered by the governement. Same today! I am a USMC veteran. I tell you this so you know I’m not blowing smoke…

Thanks Sir well said. Think oldman has some sort of thing against Christians. Sorry but we are all people and people are never perfect.

@oldmanbobWhat?! I ‘vividly" remember Vietnam , but I NEVER heard the word Christian tied to it. If you have issues with Christianity, fine. But don’t tack it onto where it doesn’t fit.@RedSamRackhum“…most young men of draft age either found ways to avoid draft…” Really? Is that why the war (for the USA) lasted TWELVE years with 58,000+ dead and 300,000+ wounded? Good thing Uncle Sam couldn’t find any young men or that war would still be going on.

My endless gratitude to all who have served. God bless all those who gave of themselves in defense of the freedoms we celebrate this week, and enjoy all our days. May your sacrifices never be forgotten or belittled.

Yes but if Sluggo was found with that in his pocket at school, they’d call in a swat team and hold him incommunicado.

Doing the right thing will always costs you something, because you are making something that is wrong right. In the end when the dust settles, and it may take years, you have a personal satisfaction deep within you that you don’t share that feels amazing.

There are no Great men. There are only Great Challenges that ordinary men are forced to meet. William Halsey. War is never the first choice, but one that others make for us. Oldman, remember others have given their lives for you to have the priveledge to denigrate them. HooYah!

It’s hard to read this story of the pocket knives without thinking about the pocket watch in “Pulp Fiction”. Ewwww,,,,

To all those who made comments after mine (and probably won’t read this one, now that we’re on to the next day) I regret that you didn’t understand that I was not talking about killing people, indeed, I wasn’t even thinking about war. I abhor violence. I was thinking about being honest and owning up to it when you make a mistake.Wouldn’t it be nice if they gave a war and nobody came?http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066422/

If you never stepped off a landing craft and onto foreign soil, if you never seen the damage and brutally that people have done to there own country men to get them to believe in there way of life, politics and Communistism. War and conflicts are not pretty thing!!! It’s all deadly! If you never been there and seen it with your own eyes, then you would never know… Semper Fi

Why should America have cared about Veitnam’s government. (not trying to sound disrespectful)
